Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste of the same with a bit more coffee thrown in. This full bodied brew is definitely not a brown ale instead more like a porter or stout. Great tasting brew but then again it says Bold. Even if a bold brown borderline on a porter or stout. Cirrhosis (625), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Body looks dark brown close to being black, tan colored rocky head that was pretty noisy, good lacing but overall nothing to special looking. Very dark smelling brew (is that even possible dark smelling?) there is noticeable hops, coffee, and some mild smelling malt, overall the aroma reminds me more of a stout or at the very least a porter instead of a brown ale. Mouth feel was pretty crappy thin and tingly it almost seem to such the moister out of my mouth and throat. Taste was kind of chalky, but was dominated by coffee and dark tasting malts, even the flavor reminds me of a watered down stout this was not the beer I was hoping to drink tonight. Man this taste nothing like a brown ale in my opinion and that’s what I was hoping for, it doesn’t taste bad or anything it just a watered down stout and not the light sweet taste I was hoping for. Done while watching mythbusters. maeib (4779), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 26, 2009 Bottled Evening Star Brighton. A very dark brown coloured beer with a tiny off white head. The aroma is hoppy with nuts malt and caramel notes, but there’s hint of cardboard too. The taste is all of the above but the hops are more pronounced and dominate the previous sweetness. Not the best US brown but still drinkable.

Aroma is of lightly roasted malts and nuts. Has a good carbonation. The flavor is light but not bad. Has a sweet creamy taste. Has a light body and a slick texture. The finish is okay and the aftertaste is quick doesn’t hang around a lot. I did not expect a lot from this beer. It is not great but it is not bad either. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 4, 2009 This poured a medium to dark brown with an off white head. Aroma was midly roasted malts mainly and not much else, a bit subdued. Flavor was slightly roasted malts, some toffee and caramel. A decent beer, but not nutty enoguh for my tastes to be a good brown. durhambeer (1245), Durham, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin off white head. Mild hops on the nose and sugars. The malts come across more as simple sugars and less as complex caramel roast. A bit nutty. Not bad, but mild and too sweet. stchloe (491), Portland, Oregon, USA
