A fairly decent brown ale. Pours brown with some head. Tastes of nuts, some hops, and a touch of malt.

deep brown pour w/ hints of ruby in it w/ a nice tan head w/ avg lacing. pretty common brown ale aroma some light nutty notes hints of carmels. Palate is about avg some ok coating and a light carbonation. Flavor has a good amount of nuttiness w/ a decent amount of carmel and light toffees finishes a touch dry. It’s not a bad little brown ale.

Dark/reddish color with tan thin head. Nice hop/malt balance. No standout flavors or aromas. If you could keep the hop balanced and may add a defining flavor, this would be a good brown.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2006 Decent start, but comes up a bit short. Pours dark brown, light head with a light malty aroma. Slightly nutty-malt taste is good, but a little weak and quick to go away. They should spend more time on the recipe than the marketing.

Undated bottle, probably early-mid 2006, consumed on 8/3/06.
Fizzy head is light-beige and rapidly recedes to cover and ring, leaving no lacing. Deep, polished- brown-leather body is extremely filtered (clear) with big bubbles rising.
Light shoe polish and hay in the nose, combine with dry toffee and pasteurized yeast dustiness/staleness. Medium to medium-weak strength, with no alcohol apparent nor any hops, save for a light floral scent in the background. Chewy, chocolate graham crackers provide some very minimal relief from all of the dry, papery, hardness and it looks like I spoke to soon, as now I do get a whiff of alcohol (light).
Horribly fizzy, harsh carbonation delivers a nutty, woody, lightly oily flavor of dry chocolate, hay, light grains and some fleeting caramel sweetness. Acid of some sort, hangs about on the end, which in unison with the harsh texture and rather weak body, goes nowhere fast. Alcohol is mildly apparent again in the flavor. Some soft choco-caramel notes are the only saving grace. Some light meatiness and perhaps even some veggies on the end as well. Not terribly complex. Filtered, pasteurized, Olde Saratoga...what did you expect? Poured most down the drain.

Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted, nutty malt with hints of chocolate - quite nice. Medium body with carbonation coming out in the end fairly light and fizzy. Taste starts with all of the characteristics lighted in the aroma. The finish gets a bit of a stale taste and some spicy / woody hops. An okay brown ale, but nothing that blows me away.

The aroma has a smokiness and roasted coffee . The pour is a deep brown with ruby hints and a light tan head of decent size. The flavor is overall roasted with a bit of chocolate.

Nice brew.... very reminiscent of a porter. The pour is not opaque, but the deepest ruby prune color imaginable. The head is tan, decent and leaves weblacing. The bouquet is of choco malts with some dark cherries and espresso intermingling. Flavors of cherries, smoke, roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee predominate. The finish is roasted. A syrupy mouthfeel rounds out the brew, and makes for a very nicely satiating offering.

On tap at HDG. Deep dark brown in color with a little thin white head. Malty roasty aroma. Molasses nutty notes. Roasty malty flavor. Caramel roasty notes. Coffee like roast. Medium bodied. Finish is malty. Decent beer. Drinkable.
