A deep, bold nut brown ale beautifully balanced with rich dark malts and a complex hop character converging to reveal a simply enchanting elixir.

brown pour, small tan head. Malty, nutty, and pumpernickel aromas. Flavor is malty and pretty watery. I am not impressed with this brewery again.

355ml bottle. Brewed at the new facility according to the label. Not sure if it is still new but ill take it. Rather than brown this is actually a really deep plum/magenta color. The smell is pleasant, light cocoa, roasted malts, slight earthiness. The flavor is ok. Definitely a big metallic note but in this case it doesn’t ruin the beer. The rest of the flavor is light and refreshing slightly roasty mineral watery ale. It drinks super light, a good dark beer for summer.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2013 Re-rate 6/10/13: Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom L. Roastiness, chocolate, nuts, caramel, some herbal hops. Bittersweet, finishes bitter. Decent. 7/3/6/3/13=3.2

Sweetish malty and nutty flavor, slightly roasty, with a dry finish with mild hoppy bitterness. Medium-bodied. A good easy-drinking Brown Ale. 7/3/7/3/14=3.4

Crystal clear copper ale with a small, creamy, khaki-colored head. Cirrus lacework. Malty, sweet aroma. A bit floral and chocolatey. Maybe a note of vanilla and a hint of port. The well-balanced flavor is lightly chocolately and roasty with a suggestion of buttermilk. Medium-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Short, crisp finish.

12oz bottle. Nice, very dark brown/red color, minimal cream-colored head. Some lace. Soft, crisp carbonation. Very easy to drink. Rich, roasty, malty, nutty. Light chocolate. Some hops. Some dark fruit. Nice, light bitter / savory taste. Went great with my D. P. Dough black and bleu calzone.

355mL. This is one of the first beers Cohen and I ever got to try after discovering ratebeer as juniors in college. Wasn’t rating back then, so picked up this bottle for nostalgia’s sake. Pours clear deeper brown, medium tan head. Weaker retention and little soapy lacing. Aroma is quite nice- toffee, coffee, hazelnut, caramel, browned butter. Taste is suddy, minerally, lemon, coffee, detergent...long coffee acid and lemon acid finish. Lemon detergent palate. It still isn’t offensive, but not very fresh or rich tasting. Tart, bitter, no cloying. No apparent off-flavors besides soapiness.

Burnt sienna pour with aroma of big roasty malt, chocoff, some hops. Tastes malty, with chocoff, nuts, and brown sugar elements. Smooth and silky.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a medium to large sized browned beige head. Soft malt on the nose, toast and a touch of cocoa. There’s a faint bit of paper behind it all, lurking in the background, gaining prominence as the beer warms. Medium bodied, toasty and warm. Soft roasted malt, a bit of cocoa and chocolate. Finishes up with some more roast notes, a touch of nutty malt. Overall pretty decent.
