355mL. This is one of the first beers Cohen and I ever got to try after discovering ratebeer as juniors in college. Wasn’t rating back then, so picked up this bottle for nostalgia’s sake. Pours clear deeper brown, medium tan head. Weaker retention and little soapy lacing. Aroma is quite nice- toffee, coffee, hazelnut, caramel, browned butter. Taste is suddy, minerally, lemon, coffee, detergent...long coffee acid and lemon acid finish. Lemon detergent palate. It still isn’t offensive, but not very fresh or rich tasting. Tart, bitter, no cloying. No apparent off-flavors besides soapiness.

12 ounce bottle from Market Street Wine Shop, Downtown location, Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark ruby tinted brown color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is molasses, chocolate, nutty notes and husky malt notes. Taste is chocolate, nutty notes and faint hops in the finish. Also just a faint note of coffee and molasses. Medium bodied. Nice and refreshing.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. Pretty gimmicky name, yes? Pours a dark brown color with a thin beige head. Thin lacing rings. The aroma is nutty and roasty. Medium-bodied with toasted malt, hops and a bit of fruit in the flavor. The finish is lightly malty with just a hint a hops. Overall this is an average Brown Ale.

Bottle. Ruby tinged brown body, small tan head. Malty aroma, touch of a nutty brown ale bite to it. Sweet malt has plenty of earthy nutty notes as well. Average palate. Not bad. Brewnosers Meeting.

Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Chestnut brown colour. Quite dry and malty. Some toffee and chewy fruit. Smattering of spicy hops. A bit woody in the mouthfeel. Not bad.

A Mes rate: bottle at Beer Exposed.
Mahogany coloured with a very thin off white head. Full of roasted malt with a light smoky, almost ashy note. Faint nutty chocolate finish. not much going on but it’s drinkable enough.

Clear reddish-brown pour with a little off-white head. Sweet nutty aroma showcased some nice roasted malts. Pretty tasty roasted malt presence as well with some dark fruits. Citrus hops were well-balanced in there for the style. Light-to-medium bodied with a nutty-citrus finish. One of the better browns that I’ve had, and some excellent marketing.
