2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at a random Irish pub in midtown. Pours a purple brown CPR with a lot of fizz bubbles. Taste comes off as dish soap in the beginning and end with a hint of fruit. Don't know if it's the booze or if the glass or beer were skunky.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of hard candy, grain, and slight tart fruit. Light amber pour with a slight white head that doesn’t retain. Taste is of caramel, tart fruit, high alpha hops. It’s a dry beer overall considering the 8% abv. I think it goes down very well, with the slight sour of the pomegranates and the bitterness of the hops balancing the sweetness of the malt. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation, dry finish.

Pomegranate is such a mild tasting fruit that I’m surprised brewers use it in beers. But if they want a mild tasting beer, use a mild tasting fruit!! So this beer is just okay, with nothing inherently awful, but since it lacks character it’s kinda perceived that way. Alcohol, light toffee, fresh bread and just a smidge of fruit. Sweet toffe-like malts, soft hop character with just a shadow of fruit flavor. It could have been cumquats, starfruit on lychee in there...hell, the fruit was so insignifigant there could have been nothing in there for all it know. Kinda lame.

"wouldn’t have been able to pick out pomegranate specifically, but there was a deifinite sweetness to the aroma, and especially the flavor, with some bitterness not from hops as well. pretty good stuff, hard to compare."

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Still yet another 12 oz. bottle purchased at Julio’s Liquors. Dark amber color with fast fleeting head. Aroma is almost all pomegranate with touches of toffee.
I didn’t have much of an expectation because I already knew how this was going to be. Flavor is mostly pomegranates, candy sugar and a sweet berry finish. This reminds me a lot of the juice “POM” . Oily texture with proper carbonation level. Yep, it is what it is folks. It still is drinkable if you want a fruit beer.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a reddish amber color with off-white head. Pomegranate on the nose; follows onto the palate. There are some other flavors going on, but its weird finishes dirtyish.

I must say, Origin Ale tasted nothing like I expected. Of course, I have to be honest in saying that I wasn’t really sure what I imagined a so-called “Imperial Amber Ale with Pomegranate Juice” would taste like. As it turns out, Origin tastes like an Amber Ale, an Irish Ale, and a Fruit Beer rolled into one. The tasting sequence goes in that order, more or less. Sweet malts and light hops start things off. Then, you get an unexpected creaminess. The finish has a lingering fruitiness that sticks to the roof of the mouth but it’s extremely subtle. Last thing you taste is a quick flash of fresh, clean hops but there’s virtually no bitterness. For me, the downplayed fruit notes were quite nice. While this beer is too odd for me to seek out regularly, the mix of flavors is quite unique and refreshing.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 19, 2014 Bottle.
A- Malty, caramel, fruity.
A- Amber color, clear liquid, off white head.
T- Malty, caramel, dark fruits, slightly sweet, doughy.
P- Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, smooth finish.
O- I love pomegranates and was excited for this beer. From the first to the last taste, I couldn’t even find a subtle hint of pomegranate. This sits somewhere between an Irish Ale and an Amber Ale for me. It’s creamy and smooth and has some fruity caramel tones but no where near what the name implies. Overall, I was quite disappointed in this beer.
