Commercial Description:
Contract brewed for Schmaltz Brewing Company. CREATION, 1996, C.E.: On the floor of a San Francisco Mission District loft, intimate friends squeeze luscious pomegranates by hand to brew the first 100 cases of the original HE’BREW beer. EVOLUTION: The culmination of the first decade of Shmaltz Brewing and a core offering for our second, ORIGIN renews this sacred covenant, sacrificing over 10,000 pomegranates for each precious hand-crafted batch. REVELATION, on-going: In Jewish tradition, pomegranates symbolize righteousness with seeds said to number 613, the total commandments in Torah. In Deut. 8:8, pomegranates, barley and wheat prove the bounty of the Land of Milk and Honey. The calyx atop the fruit inspired the original Jewish crown. One Persian hero of myth consumed a pomegranate and became invincible. Muhammad instructed: ’Eat the pomegranate, for it purges the system of envy and hatred.’ Newlywed Greeks eager for a family crush one under-heel for fertility. Buddha cured a child-devouring demoness of her evil habit by instructing her to eat a pomegranate. Whether for knowledge or temptation, for virtue or valor, for art or for love, revel in the sumptuous pleasure of ORIGIN. To life...L’Chaim!

22oz bottle, shared with DeuceDeuceOU, a good beer, with the back end of it having the pomegranate taste, this beer could use a serious kick though, needing more hop profile more malt backbone and even MORE Pomegranate up over 10% this beer might be enjoyable more so ... still not bad for fruit beer.

Vaguely fruity aroma. It’s sort of mild and sugary. I couldn’t spot a pomegrante from the aroma so I’ll assume that is what I am smelling. Regardless it is muddled and muted. The body is amurky orange/brown and holds a bubbly white head that is mostly diminishing. Malt, fruit, powdered sugar in the fore sliding into mild caramela nd lightly tart and acidic fruit notes. Just doesn’t get me going.

I’m surprized that this is entered as a Fruit Beer, since the pomegrantes contribute to rather than define the beer. Nice look, a clear deep copper with a frothy off-white head. The aroma contains rich caramel and a tartness presumably supplied by the fruit. It tastes of caramel and a serious grapefruit bitterness along with some pepper for the tongue. Very drinkable with a well hidden potency. Nice.

Clear amber color from a 1 pint bottle. Big wiffs or grapefruit. Just to tart to be real interesting or drinkable. Alchol is well hidden.

22oz - Aroma of bitter toasted malts, pomegranate, caramel and a touch of hops. Pours transparent amber with medium lasting head and good lacing. Flavor is caramel malt with a drop of pom juice in the aftertaste. Palate is creamy and smooth. Nothing special, but not bad.
