Commercial Description:
Contract brewed for Schmaltz Brewing Company. Sacred Species No.1 YEAR OF THE FIG Jewish tradition celebrates 2 New years; The 1st calendar month in spring historically came after the barley harvest. The High Holidays in Fall mark the creation of the world. Harvest to harvest - the perfect bookends for deliciousness! Arise noble Rejewvenator, infused for ’08 with the sacred succulent Fig. O the history, O the shtick: Gen 3:7: "And their eyes were opened, and they knew that they were naked; they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons." Time to get cooking! "Professed Wrestlers and Champions were in times past fed with figs." -Pliny, Roman naturalist. Romulus, mythic founder of Rome, and his twin Remus were nursed by a wild she-wolf under a fig tree. In 1857, Queen Victoria commissioned an 18 inch plaster fig leaf to adorn her cast of Michelangelo’s David. "The statue that advertises its modesty with a fig leaf brings its modesty under suspicion." -Mark Twain. Buddha gained enlightenment meditating beneath a fig tree. Zechariah/Micah: "Nations shall beat their swords into plowshares...all will sit with his neighbor under his fig tree, with no one to be afraid." Fear not Shmaltzers - Grab your Newtons, rub your happy belly, strap on your fig leaf and your championship belt, abd prepare to blow your shofar... tis a new HE’BREW Beer season to rejoice. L’Chaim! Clear deep red-brown pour with a medium foamy white head. Sweet fruity malt aroma. Lots of caramel malt in the flavor, with a hint of figs and hops. A nice brew.

More of a Scottish ale than a strong american. Incredibly good balance of hops and malt. Hint of honey and figs? Sampled at the St. Pete Florida Craft Beer Fest.

This American Strong Ale pours a deep reddish copper color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel malts, figs and some other dark fruits. A medium bodied Strong Ale. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are earthy and slightly spicy. The fig and raisin flavors are fairly prominent, but it’s not overly sweet or over the tops. Nice balance. Very smooth taste. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is ful and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bomber pours a clear mahogany body with a decent offwhite head that has some canary hued accents. Aroma is molasses, spicy hops, and blueberries. The figs emerge as it warms. Slightly chewy on the palate, with some unwelcome alcohol hotness. Taste is malty and fruity, with molasses and Fig Newtons dominating. Spicy hops and hot alcohol also present. I generally give high marks to the Shmaltz beers but I’ll pass on this one.

Cloudy brown appearance. Yeasty, Belgian like aroma. Flavor has dried fruit and sweet malt. It could pass for a Belgian ale. Very easy to drink.

Tasted 7/14/08. 22oz bomber. Hazy with an amber brown hue. Brainy ring of bone white head. Aromas of caramel and fruity esters. Medium bodied and sweet. Dark dried fruits and cocoa. Spicy and mildly peppery. Moderate effervescence. A subtle fudgy toffee undertone. Pruney cola malts. Slight hop palate. Honey flavors show in the malt profile. Bitter in the middle, where the fruit shows. Dark, dried and/or berries. Mild citrus note. Moderate alcohol with a grape and vanilla flavor. Not grapes, but candy grapey. Tart, sweet and sticky with a rolling palate. Slight pepper and spice. Maybe a touch too sweet.

Bottle. Clear dark brown pour with a beige head. Has a fruity aroma that follows through to the taste which is rather rich and sweet, like vanilla and molasses. Its a bit too sweet for me and the alcohol is a little noticeable, but otherwise this is a pretty good beer.
