Bomber from the supermarket. Reddish mahogany pour with a rapidly fading light beige head. Aromas of sweet toffee infused with dark dried fruit--raisin, fig, date and black cherry. Sweet toffee and light molasses malt flavors defined by dark dried fruit--again raisin, fig, date, black cherry, with a peppery alcohol burn underneath. Finished with an earthy, almost roasty note. Surprisingly medium bodied and with little carbonation surviving after a short while (granted it’s summer). A bit too sweet and uneven for my liking--I was hoping for a more adventurous hop addition like in the other He’brews. Nonetheless, I’ll join those in saying give this a chance with some aging, so that the boozy burn will mellow and the rich flavors will settle and develop.

22oz bottle. Smelled of fig, brown sugar, raisin, light chocolate, and subdued citrusy hops. Poured a hazy dark brown color with orange highlights. The head was thick, tan, and retained its height well. Some tattered lace was left behind on the glass. Dry and medium bodied with mild bitterness that peaked at 2-3 out of 10. Earthy flavor with tree bark and molasses notes. Dark fruit flavors emerged as the beer warmed. Not bad.

A vigorous pour into my 25cl tulip produces a three finger thick, amber tinged, full tan colored head. The beer is brilliantly clear and is a dark, cherry red color that shows copper highlighted, red hues when held up to the light. The aroma is quite fruity with notes of berries and figs. Some light, toasted malt notes provide a bit of balance towards the finish. There is not a whole lot going on in the aroma, it comes off as smelling very clean; it almost smells like a fruit soda in some ways.

A medium mouthfeel and a sweetness are the first thing I notice. These are lightly offset towards the finish by a light bitterness, a hint of peppery carbonation and just a touch of astringency. Dark fruit notes are the most noticeable flavor component. Flavors of raisins, figs and prunes combine with the lightly warming alcohol to produce something akin to some brandy flavors. A touch of biscuit and toasted grain flavors add just a wisp of character towards the finish, but the flavor is quite clean over-all without a lot of complexity to it.

An interesting beer, it is incredibly clean though and could use a lot more complexity. I wonder if some age might help this beer along. This is certainly not bad, it just isn’t all that dimensional; it really reminds me of some sort of dark fruit juice more than beer (though it is not overly sweet).

From the tap it pours a reddish brown color with a thin off white head. The aroma shows notes of dark fruits, figs, raisins, and some caramel malts. Has a really sweet smell to it. The flavor follows suit with the sweetness of dark fruits, plums, caramel, and figs with a just a touch of hop bitterness on the backend. Medium bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel with a long, sweet finish. This was pretty good and interesting, but nothing to get excited over.

Bottle from Mr Whiskers in Nashville. Sampled at 50 degrees. Pours a beautiful garnet with a one finger light beige head that dissipates. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, maple, and berry. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a slight syrupy texture. Flavor of caramel, fig, and brown sugar with a balancing spicy bitterness. Boozy finish with a mild accents of ginger. Lots of alcohol kick for a 7.8%, tastes more like 10%. I enjoyed this one.

Gorgeous fig-brown, mahogany with a large, creamy brown head. Starts with pleasant riffs of munich, crystal/caramel malts. Fig sugar is late in developing, but when it arrives on the seen, it delivers a near knock-out blow of complexity and is utterly enjoyable. Flavor starts similarly with munich and crystal malts massaging their way into the palate. This develops into a deep, full-bodied brown sugar and figgy flavor with the alcohol well-masked, yet also accentuating all of the deep features of this brew. Aroma/flavor profile beckons one to recall the last winter experience with a Baltic Porter. Nuanced and so well flavored as to appeal for a variety of occasions. This one deserves higher ratings.

Pours a darker amber color with a tan head. Aroma is sweeter then I thought it would be with caramel malts, dark fruits, and floral hops. Flavor isn’t as good as I was hoping either. Not as hoppy as I would expect from them. Still has a decent bitter finish.
