JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jul 7, 2008 Mahogany color with a hint of ruby when held to the light. Smaller, but stable light tan head. Sweet grain and husk aromas. HInts of toasted grain and mild caramel as well. Sweet flavors with caramel and light fruit. Middle has a bit of herbal hops to help cut some of the sweetness. This has some bock beer qualities with a lot of malt. A touch warming in the gut. Not bad, at least it beat my expectations. FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours a deep red oak color. Very small froth head dissipated quickly. Aroma Is spicy and malty with some nice nuttiness to it. Flavor is quite aggressive and presents the fig and sweet molasses immediately. A very nice bite from start to finish and has a bit of fruitiness to it. Medium bodied. Very good and rich throughout. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jul 4, 2008 22 ounce bottle. Pours a nice red/brown color with an off white head. Looks very dense. The aroma shows a little bit of roasted and toffee character. I’m not sure if I pick up any fig. My only experience with fig are in newtons. I guess that’s the bit of dark fruit character that I’m picking up. Its not bad, but hardly noticeable. A lot of the same stuff in the flavor and all well blended together. It comes off almost grape like. Candy-ish. Full body with refreshing carbonation and a balanced finish. Not a bad beer. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 3, 2008 500ml bottle. Murky Brown-amber color. Mellow, malty aroma. The taste is very malt centered, but with a pungent caramel and fig flavor. A fairly large disappointment considering the only other fig beer Ive had, Blaugies Darbyste, was quite excellent. The dark and amber malts don’t really compliment the fig flavor that well in my opinion. Not horrible, but certainly not one of Hebrew’s more impressive beers. glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cereal and nutty, moderate hops of perfume and light citrus and light notes of red wine, alcohol, dried fig and dark rum. Head is creamy, white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color clear deep red/brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and finishes lightly acidic. Palate is light to medium, watery and has a carbonation between fizzy and lively. It finishs lightyl alcoholic. Not as strong as I like American Strongs to be, but an interesting twist to the style. robbmotiwalla (50), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 2, 2008 very fruity. reminds me of apricot and of course figs. tastes almost sparkling on my tongue. i could go for more hops hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle… This beer rocks!… Clear copper ale with ruby highlights and a small, creamy, khaki-colored head. The aroma is of dark malts, dried plum, fig and vinous esters. Full-bodied and syrupy with soft carbonation. Sweet, malty and fruity. The residual sugar is fortifying and not overbearing. Lengthy, fig and light maple finish. What a pleasant surprise. Makes me want to go at a bowl of succulent, rich, hearty figs. World class brew! pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours a brownish ruddy red with a decent enough fine head. The nose is sweet. I don’t know that I’m smelling figs though. Very toasty, with some raisins. Maybe some rounder aspects to the malt, but a sickly toastiness. Nice full body, with a creamy mouth and fine bubbles. The flavors are around where the nose is. Sickly toasty sweet. A bit of those raisins. And then there’s the ginger? I swear there is some ginger in here, and I don’t care for it. The fruit is covered up by spice, ginger and grainy toast. Lingering toasty to fruity finish. My least favorite from He’Brew. And I love figs!
