Slipstream (735), USA Dec 22, 2008 Updated: Sep 18, 2009A well hopped, malty ale. Pretty smooth and sweet, and you can clearly taste the figs. I wonder what is so Jewish about the HeBrew line of beers. Are they kosher? Do they taste good with matzoh crackers? krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Dec 19, 2008 bomber. color is tawny amber brown with orange edges. bone colored head forms tight but quickly recedes. chocolate malts stand out in the aroma. a pleasant fruitiness turns up as well. different than i had expected. a little sweet with the chocolate ,malt observed in the aroma playing a big part in the flavor. dark figgy fruit is present but not detracting. hops are definitely down played. palate is clean and body is relatively full. not at all what i was imagining, but a solid brew nonetheless. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Dec 18, 2008 Hazy brown pour with light head and lace. Aroma of brown sugar. Flavor is brown sugar as well a tad of a bitter as well. Carbonation is minimal mouthfeel is full and solid. Pretty solid sipper not over the top but pretty nice beer. 3 5 7 4 13 garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 7, 2008 HogTownHarrys bottle, shared with GregClow, Tupalev and Blankboy. Appearance: Dark brown, small off white head. Aroma: quite floral, malty, caramel - sweet. Flavour, Peanut, toffee and malt. Floback (333), Naples, Florida, USA Dec 7, 2008 Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a dark brown/amber with a small brown head. The nose is quite subtle with notes of caramel, apple and other fruits. Flavors are similar and include toffee, caramel, dark fruits, leather belt, cola, and a bite of astringent alcohol in the finish. Medium carbonation and medium/full body. A decent effort by this brewery. boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Nov 18, 2008 22oz. bomber: This one pours a clear, ruby tinged amber color. There was a i finger tan head on it that dropped off rather quickly. Milder aroma than I expected. It was still good, with a slightly sugary caramel aroma up front, followed by notes of dark fruits, some of which might be figs (the fig on the label was a slight hint!). Not much carbonation to this one. It has a slightly silky mouthfeel. The taste is good, although a touch lighter than I’d expect for a strong ale. Some alcohol, caramel and dark fruits predominate. Good, but not at the top of my list.
