Clear mahogan beer, with a fast-fading head - syrupy sweet nose, with strong fruity character, fig, raisin, prune, rum - really bright and fruity flavor, with some warming alcohol and spicy character - the fig is quite strong and natural, which is a welcome change, as the flavors in their beers usually come across as artificial - some strong brown sugar sweetness, cherry and dates - a fairly decent beer for these folks.

The aroma is fruity with yeast, fig, caramel, toffee, malt, and citrus hops. The appearance is brown with a decent head. The flavor is like the aroma and bitter-sweet. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s quite good.

[1364-20080517] 1pt6floz bottle. Sweet figgy yeast aroma. Clear, golden amber body with quick off-white bubbles. Heavy grainy yeast flavour. Medium body. Beery, but a funny label.

Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-hued body with an inch of beige head. Smell: Strong maltiness that’s both grainy, bready, and surely sweet-smelling along with a hoppy scent smelling of flowers and spice, with a lesser hint of citrus fruit. Plenty of dark fruits in the nose. Taste: Pale malts with a blend of toasted grains and dark caramel topping. More malt tastes of toffee and brown sugar as things progress. Fruitiness coming across a taste of raisins soaked in concentrated fig juice, with maybe a dash of red wine. Light touch of acidity. Continually grainy throughout. Spicy, citrusy hops with a medium bitterness, though it doesn’t quite cut through the sugar. Minor kick of booze near the warming finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Some stickiness to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: It’s all good fun! Come on! An interesting twist of doppelbock and fruit beer. What’s not the like?

Bottle at Rudy’s tasting May ’08, courtesy of someone very generous. Mild boozy aroma. Light brown, decent sized white head. Lots of hops and malt in the taste - well balanced. Very bitter, fruity and earthy finish. Good simple stuff.

Bottle: Aroma of plums, molasses, grapes, and faint banana. It pours a transparent garnet with a small off-white head that fades to a ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with a plum and molasses combination. The finish has a moderate grape presence, faint banana, faint earthy bitterness, and a hint of alcohol. The alcohol flavor slightly increases as it warms, but never overbearing. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Solid...surprised by the low score overall.

22oz bottle. Aroma of sweet fruits, fig. Red body with off white head. Fruit juice flavor that was too sweet and bitter for my palate.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, blankboy & tupalev - HogTownHarry’s bottle. Ruby-brown with a small cream-coloured head. Aroma is quite sweet with burnt sugar and malt, and some nice green hops around the edges. Flavour is big and fairly well balanced, sweet and fruity, but nicely hopped in the finish. I bit less exciting that I hoped/expected, but still enjoyable.
