Flavor follows aroma at first with touches of soft fruit esters towards midpalate. Estery fruity flavor (but not particularly "figgy") with bold malts with touches of maple and even subtler touch of chocolate towards finish. Moderate balancing neutral bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium-full in body and moderately carbonated. Overall, fairly decadent and sweet with subtle influence from fig (tastes like fig-less ale -- perhaps fig blends too well with esters and malt character or maybe it’s just too subtle). Interesting.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating(2008 release). Pours very hazy very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of raisin, prune, fig, molasses, toast, bread, caramel, herbal, earth, toffee, nuttiness, and chocolate. Nice and pleasantly balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, fig, chocolate, toffee, nuttiness, earth, and herbal. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, dark fruit, molasses, toast, chocolate, toffee, earth, nuttiness, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of flavors; minimal cloying sweetness present on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice doppelbock/dubbel hybrid brew. Very nice balance and complexity of flavors; very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured on tulip. It has a very dark purple color with about two finger tall head. Smell a lot of dark fruits and heavy candy. The flavor is all about strong fig concentrate almost like if it was burnt syrup or burnt caramel. The mouth feel is the best about this beer, well carbonated and solid.

Another HeBrew bomber :-). The body on this one was brown and murky (yeast) with some tan, silky lacing. With a complex aroma of fig, vanilla, brown sugar and hops hinted at a well-rounded beer. This one was nutty like a brown ale, and fruity with hints of yeast like a Belgian beer. Finished with a smooth aftertaste full of yeast and bitter hops - perdy’ damn good.

Thanks Chipalsa, for the hookup with Hebrew beer again. Nose is pure fig and prune, with some berries and caramel/dark malts. Body is mainly dark purple/brown with some tan head. Taste is very fruity with berry notes to it. Semi-sweet with some dark malt undertones. Toffee, caramel, and more fig juice. Good stuff. Very drinkable.

Deep ruby colored body with a bit of tarnished brown creeping in. Slightly hazed body though no sediment noted. One and a half finger eggshell colored head set atop. The head diminishes rather quickly, scant lacing left behind. Good looking beer but not top tier.
The aroma is heavy on the fig and caramel. Deep rich caramelized sugar stops just short of burnt. Brighter raisiny and plumb aroma develops underneath. Soft spiciness is picked up underneath but the overall aroma is dominated with sweet caramel and fig.
The flavor is similar to what you would expect from the nose. The sweetness is a bit more subdued than what I imagined however. The caramel melds with a molasses flavor. The fig and fruit flavor is much darker and more integrated. I really enjoy the sweetness being held in check, makes the beer much more enjoyable and easy to drink.
Medium to full bodied beer, carbonation is moderate and appropriate. Very soft texture. The finish is on the longer side but fades sooner than you might imagine.
Tasty beer overall. I am not sure if this is one I would pick up again, it is more about my feeling about the style rather than the beer. Enjoyable and rather drinkable. Holding up well, worth a try if you can find it lying around.

22 oz. bomber. Poured brown with a thin tan head. Raisins, prune juice, and fig notes. Was not a big fan of this beer. The carbonation level was very low. Tasted like a beer and prune juice cocktail.

22oz btl. Been aging for a couple years. Poured into tulip glass. A hazy, deep, dark reddish-brown color with the sweet delicious notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, and plums. Not too much head but a tan colored foam. Lively carbonation in glass. Great scrumptious taste with flavors of chocolate, a hint of a woodsy profile, fig taste not too dominant but can tell it’s somewhere. Smooth off of the palate, not too many bubbles on feel. Finishes nicely with no unpleasant lingering. A great beer from my friends at Shmaltz Brewery. I highly recommend it if you can try it. Glad that I have even more of these aging still.

Poured from a 22oz bottle. Pours a cloudy deep wood color with a medium light head. Aroma is very malty with a bit of sweetness. Flavor is bold malts with a hints of chocolate and maple. Medium body and moderately carbonated. Overall, a fairly interesting and decent beer. I’m glad I was able to try this.

22 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond, VA, opened 9/28/10. Pours a dark clear ruby color with a medium light brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, toffee, raisins, faint anise notes and a bit of chocolate. The taste is chocolate, anise and other spice notes, bitter hoppy notes, berries, toffee, raisins. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.
