COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Contract brewed for Shmaltz Brewing Company. Sacred Species No.2 YEAR OF THE DATE "The righteous shall flourish like the Date palm." Psalm 92:12. Hark! The second coming of REJEWVENATOR, infused for 2009 with the sacred DATE. Jewish tradition celebrates two New Years: The first in Spring after the barley harvest. The High Holidays in Fall mark the creation of the world. Harvest to harvest - the perfect bookends for deliciousness! Dates were used to sweeten beer in Ancient Egypt as early as 3500 BCE. Pliny the Elder, 1st c. Roman naturalist, lauded Judea’s Dates for their succulence and sweetness. So important for food and shelter, the Date palm became a symbol for the Kingdom of Judea, stamped on the ancient and modern Israeli Shekel coins. Shaking your Lulav on Sukkot and covering your kosher Sukkah demands Date palm leaves. Palm Sunday reenacts the procession of Jesus into Jerusalem. In Arabic, "Tamr" is the 4th stage of a Date’s ripening. Mohammed: "Whoever eats seven fresh Tamr fruits at breakfast shallrise above magic and poison on that day." The Hebrew word for Date palm is "Tamar", commonly describing the beauty and elegance of a woman. Solomon’s sister was named Tamar. "The only difference between a date and a job interview is that not many job interviews have a chance that you’ll end up naked at the end of it." -Jerry Seinfeld. Like its Latin genus the Pheonix, rise and shine with our newest Double Date Shmoppelbock - and flourish! L’Chaim!

This Beer is Inspirational! Is Jeremy Cowan coming up with these beers? Absolutely phenomenal. Delicious, delicious, delicious. Year of the fig was heavy on the fig and awesome. This years offering is lighter on the date flavor but it comes through in the finish. I am not a big fan of Belgium yeast but this beer helps me cross over by using fruit and mellowing the strong yeast flavor. If yo haven’t tried the fig offering, Oh my!! You must try!

Fig, dates, burnt brown sugar with a sharp cleansing hop finish. Carbonation is perfect. The dubbel aspects are very Ommegang and the dopple adds a thick smoothness. I have not rated a beer in a while but this inspired me...as He’brew often does.

22 ounce bottle - $5.99 at Bullock’s in Marietta, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a rather dark, deep amber-brown body with a frothy, off-white head. Smell: Heavily toasted dark, rich breadiness with notes of brown sugar and blackened caramel and even more sugar thrown on top. Touches of black pepper and dried herbs. Of course, there’s the tantalizing date fruit character along with some raisiny notes. Taste: Oh, the Munich malts, how they talk. Deeply toasted dark bread slathered with brown sugar and caramel for a heavy, ponderous amount of sweetness. Dash of spice. Plenty of succulent date juice fruitiness all the while as well as a touch of golden raisins. Spicy, vaguely citrusy hops with a medium amount of bitterness -- not near enough to scrub away all the rich, resounding sweetness present. Delicate herbal tones. Finishes sweet and fruity with a lingering taste of caramel-dipped bread crusts. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Proposed to be a split of Doppelbock and Dubbel characteristics, but, for the most part, I see mostly the doppelbock (and a rather sweet, heady one at that). I can certainly see a lot of people taking issue with this one for various reasons, but I enjoyed it. After as many beers as I’ve had I always like one that makes me sit up and take notice.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating (some time in 2009 though). Pours slightly hazy reddish brown color with a fairly dense 1-2 finger light khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some slight lacing on the glass. Aromas of plum, fig, date, caramel, molasses, biscuit, toasted malt, nuttiness, light chocolate, clove, and yeast spices. Some nice and well balanced aromas with good strength and complexity. Taste of big prune, fig, caramel, molasses, toasted malt, biscuit, chocolate, nuttiness, clove, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of dark fruit, caramel, molasses, biscuit, chocolate, and light spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance and complexity; with no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a nice creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Very smooth to drink for 7.8%. Overall this is a very excellent brew from Shmaltz. Nice complexity and balance; and very smooth to sip on. I really enjoyed this one.

(22oz. bottle). Pours Hazy amber color with thick off-white head. Aroma of dates! Taste is sweet and slightly sour. Medium body with sticky texture. This is a super tasty beer! They’ve brilliantly infused dates into this beer without making it overpowering or too sweet. It is easy to drink and deceptively strong. Excellent!!

Bottle from a North Park liquor store: Poured with a thick development of fizzy like foam while the liquid was a dense mahogany appearance. In the nose, there is an appetizing olfaction of sweet malts true to a dunkelweizen or doppelbock style, but then the addition of Belgian yeast just makes it that much more superb. The flavor dives even more immensely into the same profile as the aroma. Has a perfect balance between the spicy Belgian yeast used and the rich German malts combined for an easy smooth new hybrid recipe of a beer.

Pours out a small bubbly off white cap. Great clear colour - red with a touch of orange. Sweet aroma with thick malts, obvious bock malt qualities, dates, plums, weak citrus, caramel, sweet, thick caramel... this half Dbock half Dub is a great idea. The taste is excellent with much of the same from the aroma, slight anise, mild Belg like spices, light yeast, raisins, red apple skin, malts, molasses, dates and an old leather taste. The dates really come out mid to late sip. Smooth with mild carbs, hints of mild bitterness, medium to medium full bodied. I love this beer - gots to get more.

22zo bottle. Reddish brown color, tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, heavy aroma. Flavor of sweet ripened figs. Bold and flavorful fruity esters coat the palate. Finishes with a musty malt flavor along with a good bit of alcohol. Very sticky body, with loads of residual sugars. Dark date sugar.

craftbeerdesign (1983) - Alpharetta, Georgia, USA - JUN 19, 2009
on draft at Taco Mac, Alpharetta. arrived a deep dark brown with a nice sized tan/white head. some deep fruit aromas along with some malt. medium body... big dark fruit notes over the palate including fig, raisin, and plum. Rejewvenator carries a really well rounded body and mouthfeel - it is very smooth, not too sweet, and is very drinkable for nearly 8% alcohol. A really nice blend of doppelbock and Belgian dubbel. A lot of interesting ingredients went into this one - Trappist yeast, Warrior hops, date juice, and many other varieties of hops, malts and yeasts. a definite try - it is a pleasure.
