COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
I love when you open a door or turn a corner and realize there is an entire world that you’d never imagined existed, that’s in fact overflowing with people, schemes, and action. 2010 Sacred Species #3 seemed so obvious-Grapes. Noah’s first vineyard debacle (Genesis 9:20) to Dionysus, mythical Bacchus to Bar Mitzvah bad boys, Mogen David and Manischewitz. Appropriately Epic shtick. How many cups of Concord in childhood and many times have I heard: "But Jews don’t drink beer!" This year we came across the raging debates, alternative science, internet controversy and tribal rivalry of World Records relating to Š Grapes. Speed catching (67 in one minute, 1189 in 30 minutes!); Solo throw, run, catch (40 ft!!); Longest distance (354’4", shot from a water balloon launcher!!!); Greatest Height record (788 ft skyscraper!!!!) For this third incarnation of Rejewvenator I’m simply letting the mythological and pop cultural shtick rest and slurping together with all of you in a toast to this bizarre and delicious freakshow that we call Life... L’Chaim!

Bomber, shared with jeff. Medium amber, slightly hazy, robust rocky off white head. Aroma is toasty malt and Welch’s grape jelly. Very interesting aroma. I’m not sure if it is the power of suggestion, but the grape aroma was undeniable for me. On the palate, the grapejuice element is more subdued, lending a fruity sweetness to the dominant toasty toffee malt. Hints of cocoa, piecrust, and tea. Very interesting brew. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and found it very interesting (and dangerously easy) to drink.

Pours copper wtih a nice beige head and fruity aroma. There is a funky slightly sour fruity rye malt flavor with a bitter finish. Interesting, but not particularly tasty.

Sample poured from a 22 oz. bottle at St. Louis Microfest 2011. Pours a dark, cloudy plum-amber color with a small tan head. Aroma of fruitcake, raisins, caramel malts, brown sugar, and earth. Flavor of dark fruits (plums, raisins, grapes), caramel malts, toasted brown sugar, earth, and dough. Medium-bodied, with a vinous, malty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Interesting beer.

Bottle:   Lets just say that I won’t even go into how the one appears.   Going straight to the flavor.   If you were to take 51% Welches Grape Juice and mix it with say... a piss poor Dubbel... so many I cannot think of one at the moment, well... you wouldnt be far off from what I have here.   Somewhat smells like grape juice, necco wafers, and a really malty amber.   This seems so far off from other years... just can’t wrap my head around it other than to say Alcoholic Grape Juice.   Ugh...

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of raisin, date, brown/candy sugar, overripe banana. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. The aroma is pretty much just various types of sugars...it promises to be syrupy sweet before you even put it in your mouth, and alas...it holds to that promise. A clumsy, instantly fatiguing sugar bomb.

22. Pours a murky dark amber with a scant and sloppy white head. Big tannic vinous nose. A little oaky almost. Caramel and brown sugar under that. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Caramel, toast, nuts, brown sugar, wine grape skins, and a little oak on the mid palate. Longish vinous finish.

7/1/10. Happy July. Bomber into a trappist glass. The pour is brown with reads and a couple millimeter off-white head that fades fast. The aroma is yeasty and Belgian with a hint of sour grape juice. The flavor is surprisingly lacking with dry Belgian, Belgian yeast, and a touch of sweet and sour grape at the very end. Not super impressed.

Bottle served in Duvel snifter: Pours a reddish brown with a surprisingly short lived head and minimal lacing. The aroma has notes of grape juice, honey, brown sugar, crystal and toasted malts, and some antiseptic vapour. The taste has some fruitiness but seemed flat and almost stale. Versus most HeBrew big beers this one is rather mundane and utterly boring, not even the malt pop on this. Washed out flavor profile and chalky medicinal finish. Heck, this is not even boozy and hot like some of its stablemates and that would have even been welcomed to excite this flabby blahness. The tepid mouth feel just adds to the ... wait I dosed off there for a second, oh yeah this is a disappointing offering to say the least. Epic fail!

mcberko (5940) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 1, 2010
22 oz. bottle, pours dark reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma of grapes, caramel malts, dates, figs, some brown sugar and molasses. Flavour is a hybrid of a grapes / Doppelbock / Abbey Dubbel, with the grapes on the initial flavour, with the darker fruits, molasses and burnt caramel filling out the middle and finish. Quite nice, though the 2009 special was superior.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a beige head. The aroma has dark malty notes, fruity grapes, and light earthy notes. The flavor has some molasses like sweetness, grape juice, some lightly roasted malts, and a bit of bitterness in the finish. Solid.
