I love when you open a door or turn a corner and realize there is an entire world that you’d never imagined existed, that’s in fact overflowing with people, schemes, and action. 2010 Sacred Species #3 seemed so obvious-Grapes. Noah’s first vineyard debacle (Genesis 9:20) to Dionysus, mythical Bacchus to Bar Mitzvah bad boys, Mogen David and Manischewitz. Appropriately Epic shtick. How many cups of Concord in childhood and many times have I heard: "But Jews don’t drink beer!" This year we came across the raging debates, alternative science, internet controversy and tribal rivalry of World Records relating to Š Grapes. Speed catching (67 in one minute, 1189 in 30 minutes!); Solo throw, run, catch (40 ft!!); Longest distance (354’4", shot from a water balloon launcher!!!); Greatest Height record (788 ft skyscraper!!!!) For this third incarnation of Rejewvenator I’m simply letting the mythological and pop cultural shtick rest and slurping together with all of you in a toast to this bizarre and delicious freakshow that we call Life... L’Chaim!

Serving: Draft at Magnolia’s Beer Festival.
It pours a darker copper color with an off-white head. The nose is a mix of fruit (apple and grape), caramel, and slight yeast note. The flavor is on the sweet side with lots of fruit, particularly the grape, but also some apple, fig, and caramel notes. This one is overly sweet and reminds me of fortified grape juice too much. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a medium, sweet finish. I can’t say I found this brew particularly enjoyable. Just too fruity for me.

Bomber from Capone’s. Pours chill hazy ruby deep coppery with clingy 2 finger off-white head. Nose is that house quality nose of acidic caramel malt, mild hops, with ESBish tannins and mild fruit. Tastes caramel malty, not sweet, with some ESB tannic notes, stays pretty bitter, with some hops, not very complex. Finishes dry and gets drier as it warms. Comesacross like a poor man’s Fuller’s vintage ale. I got very little grape juice in this, and methinks it might have been a good idea to add it later along in the fermentation process.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy light brown that looks slightly purplish and has a smallish off-white head that quickly diminishes to a dusting.

The aroma is sweet figgy caramel malts, candy sugar, sweet grape juice and wood.

The flavor is sweet grapes with some vinous alcohol and some off bitter notes (card-boardy). The fruitiness fades as it warms and figgy caramel malts become more pronounced. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is a bit watery.

Overall, an interesting idea. It’s a bit watery and I didn’t care for the flavors much - it just wasn’t too interesting.

Pours syrupy brown with a quickly fading beige head. Most notable aroma is grape juice. Tastes like slightly sour and bitter juice with a medium body. Not crazy about this beer. Tastes a little too much like earwax for me to ignore.

Pours a muddy brown with a beige head and sweet, fruity aroma of grape juice and caramel. Taste is sweet and very fruity with a lot of grape flavor coming through along with lighter caramel and malt notes. Unique brew, too much grape and fruit for me

In honor of Hanukkah 2012 we are doing a flight of He’Brew beers that will most surely dissapoint. To start the night we had this beer... Well all i can say is this is what I would imagine The Grape Ape’s pee would taste like. Weirdly artificial grape drank and strange nutty maltiness. Strange and bad.

Bottle from total wine Sterling. They were guarding this stuff like it was gold. You had to ask for it by name. Talk about overkill. It’s one of the least aesthetically pleasing beers I’ve seen so far. It looks like flat coke. It smells a bit like grape juice with a slight hint of Belgian yeast. The taste is muddled. It finishes with a slight tartness. I can’t believe I bought two bottles of this crap.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of raisin, date, brown/candy sugar, overripe banana. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. The aroma is pretty much just various types of sugars...it promises to be syrupy sweet before you even put it in your mouth, and alas...it holds to that promise. A clumsy, instantly fatiguing sugar bomb.

It is sweet and malty, but not what you look for in the style. A failed expeiment.
