3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Drink at around 60 to 65 F. Clear copper in color with an almost off yellow head (figs) with great retention! Aromas of Belgian yeasts (ester), banana (ester), fig, clove, nutty, grass and caramel. Flavors of spicy clove, slightly nutty, Belgian esters (banana), light fig and caramel (at warmer temperatures not at refrigerator temps). Medium to high sweetness, light spice aftertaste with a slight dryness. The sugary sweetness of caramel is the dominant character.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a beautiful clear chestnut that fades to honey-amber at the bottom of the glass and has bubbles like champagne. Tan head is fairly thick but quickly takes its leave. Fruity aroma has notes of date and fig plus a malty undertone and just a snip of caramel. Flavor has a strong fruity core, figs and dates plus hints of smoky malt and caramel. Texture is firm and smooth, none too fizzy. Reminds me of the running joke that most Jewish holidays amount to: "Our enemies tried to kill us, we kicked their butts, so LETíS EAT!" How could anybody not love Jews? BTW - according to many Biblical scholars the forbidden fruit that Adam and Eve ate was not an apple at all, but a fig. Genesis mentions only a "fruit" and does not name the specific type.

Draft at the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton, FL. Tulip. Pours a deep amber with a two finger foamy white head. Aroma of bread, sweet candy, figs, heavy malts and Belgian yeast. Taste is similar to the aroma with a sweetness of breads, malts, candy sugars, and spice. Very comforting flavors with a smooth mouth, pleasant finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt notes of cookie, roasted and milk chocolate, moderate cooked orange for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with date, fig, brown sugar and tobacco in the background. Head is average size, frothy tan, with almost no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then the long finish is slightly sweet, lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, slick with a lively carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. Quite a bit more bitter than all other Abbey Dubbels or Doppelbocks Iíve had, but it has the right amount of depth and sweetness to entice.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Deep copper, rusty hues, thin sudsy light beige head, little lacing.   Whole wheat breadiness, slight dark pitted fruit, almost a immature or sour aspect.   Not sweet on the nose.   Strong breadiness, biscuit, honeycomb on the tongue, with softer notes of dark pitted fruit.   Very honeycomb cereal like.   Not all that chewy, moderate body and mouthfeel but nearing the lighter side for a Dubbel.   Doesnít have that mustiness I associate with the style.   Its also not as sweet as others either.   Very American like, which I expected.   Its decent, middle of the road kind of Dubbel.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Poured clear garnet with a creamy, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up sweet raisins, dates, figs, and molasses with spicy, fruity accents.. fresh vanilla beans rounded it out.. quite sweet overall. The flavor found tart darker fruit skins and peppery yeast on the tip of the tongue, with warm dates, molasses, and vanilla following.. toasted leafy notes joined grainy, but complementary herbal bitterness around.. finished with lots more sweetness and peppery belly warmth.. tasty stuff! Medium-plus bodied with moderate-plus carbonation.. well-balanced, but again just a hair too sweet.
