TheBeerLover (1011), DC Metro Area, USA Jun 30, 2008 22 oz bomber. This beer pours to a deep, hazy, brown color, with a small, tan head that fades, and a moderate to soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is wonderful, with lots of big aromas of chocolate, malt, nut, and figs. The palate is rich and smooth on the tongue, with big flavors of chocolate, nuts, molassas, and more delicious figgy flavor. This beer finishs with more excellent chocolate, nutty, and figgy flavors up front, then ends with a light peppery notes that take some of the sweet/cloying edge off this beer. Very interesting, very flavorful. I really loved the fig character of this one, as you really got it in aroma and flavor. An impressive brew, one to sip and savor. ObsceneOne (21), Boynton Beach, Florida, USA Apr 27, 2008 The nose is caramel sweet with a little fruit. Flavors of heavy bread malt opening that are followed by a nicely hoped bitterness than finishes with raisin and fig sweetness. Overall, this solid strong ale is worth a go-round.
hopscotch (4433), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle… This beer rocks!… Clear copper ale with ruby highlights and a small, creamy, khaki-colored head. The aroma is of dark malts, dried plum, fig and vinous esters. Full-bodied and syrupy with soft carbonation. Sweet, malty and fruity. The residual sugar is fortifying and not overbearing. Lengthy, fig and light maple finish. What a pleasant surprise. Makes me want to go at a bowl of succulent, rich, hearty figs. World class brew! doublebock (153), USA Aug 8, 2008 Auburn red color iwth minimal head. Malty cola aroma and taste with citrus and crisp hopiness at the end BillKismet (1388), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 9, 2008 Gorgeous fig-brown, mahogany with a large, creamy brown head. Starts with pleasant riffs of munich, crystal/caramel malts. Fig sugar is late in developing, but when it arrives on the seen, it delivers a near knock-out blow of complexity and is utterly enjoyable. Flavor starts similarly with munich and crystal malts massaging their way into the palate. This develops into a deep, full-bodied brown sugar and figgy flavor with the alcohol well-masked, yet also accentuating all of the deep features of this brew. Aroma/flavor profile beckons one to recall the last winter experience with a Baltic Porter. Nuanced and so well flavored as to appeal for a variety of occasions. This one deserves higher ratings.
