Beerlando (1352), Orlando, Florida, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a hazy reddish-brown color with a foamy, cream colored head. Minimal, sudsy spotting noted. The aroma shows notes of figs, plums, raisons, and caramel. The nose is very sweet and sugary, with little in the way of discernible hoppiness. Likewise, flavors are heavy on candied dark fruits and caramel, with just a touch of citrus hops lending bitterness. Mild dark spices enter the fold as well, complimenting the figs and prunes. The finish has a surprisingly sour twang that lingers, a sharp contrast to the big sweetness. Medium, sugary body. Easy to drink, but not particularly satisfying or interesting. Decent at best.
blklab2007 (569), Connecticut, USA Oct 9, 2008 22 oz bottle poured into a trappist glass has a amber brown color with a thin light tan head that disappeared. aroma has caramel sweet malt, dark fruit, figs, cherry, and hops mixed up with the alcohol. mouth feel is thinner with fizzy carbonation. flavor has a malted dark fruit combo. fig really stands out giving both in body and flavor. sweetness picks up and the dark fruits (fig, raisin, plumb) have a dominant role. just cant quite get into this one. WeeHeavySD (1862), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 5, 2008 Bomber a friend was drinking when I arrived at there place. Pours brown orange with no head. Nose is figgy. Taste is figgy, very strange, but not bad. hotstuff (3045), Indiana, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle at patrick767’s Fort Wayne Local tasting. Small tan head with lasting retention, transparent, no visible carbonation, spotty lacing, and a red hue. The aroma was dark fruits, figs, malt, hops, and semi-sweet. The flavor was malt, sweet, dark fruits, figs, lightly bitter, and a dry finish. Tingly mouthfeel and medium bodied. An okay beer for me as I couldn’t get into the flavor of it for some reason and will pass on wanting this one again. patrick767 (1449), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 28, 2008 bottle at Ft Wayne tasting - Pours mostly clear and amber with an off-white head. It has a mostly malt aroma with a hint of dark fruit. The nicely balanced malt flavor is joined by tasty pine and citrus hops. It has a nice full body and a mildly bitter finish. Very good. timsilvia32 (249), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Sep 24, 2008 Semi-cloudy amber pour, cream colored head. Carbonation fairly lively in the glass and in the mouth. Aroma of malt and grains, some darker fruits. Tastes more of sweet than roast malts, raisin, some caramel/toffee and somewhat creamy. Finishes a little earthy, some hops, small bitterness. Very drinkable. For some reason I was suprised that this was pretty good.
