Commercial Description:
Meadowfoam (Limnanthes alba) is a plant native to the Willamette Valley of northwestern Oregon. As its name suggests, it is a meadow wildflower with a white billowy blossom. Only in the last few decades have farmers begun to cultivate the plant commercially on a small scale. the oil from the meadowfoam seed is highly desirable as an ingredient in cosmetics. The nectar of the meadowfoam blossom contributes a creamy light vanilla quality to its derivative honey. For our purposes, this characteristic translates to a brut dry, seductively refreshing, austere sparkling mead with very delicate hints of vanilla and jasmine. So delicate are these flavors, in fact, that we strongly recommend drinking this varietal in the open air of one’s garden, where ambient aromas will pay compliment to, rather than contrast with, the mead’s nuances. As with all our sparkling meads, this varietal should be served ice cold.
