mohawksin (187), Nebraska, USA Jun 20, 2004 Pee yellow, very watery. My family used to drink the crap out of this stuff when I was a boy, I can’t figure out why. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Jun 12, 2004 pours a clear yellow with a big head that fades extremely fast, has a sour hop aroma that is not pleasant. taste is better than expected, but i wasn’t expecting much. tasted much better when i had it at a cubs game, but the ambience of wrigley can make a lot of things seem better.not bad for 12 bucks a 30 pack. tjurgens (2), USA does not count Jun 6, 2004 Old Style was once a excellent beer. I remember drinking it on tap in Lacrosse (where it was brewed by Heileman). Superb lager. That was in the mid-1970’s. Today... it’s an average brew. fatguys (65), Wisconsin, USA Jun 3, 2004 Poured a nice, urine yellow. A lively smell of weak hops, compared to a lot of macros. Okay, time to drink. Oooh, water thin. Hints of malt, and really no hops. Smelled great, but
Not bad for $4.20 a sixer. A better deal than most Bud and Miller products. I’ve heard it was better in the old days when owned by Heileman’s and brewed in La Crosse. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA May 23, 2004 Updated: Dec 23, 2004The beer of the Cubs. Had this at Wrigley. Pours a dull yellow with no real aroma. Taste is a stale malt, kinda like cardboard. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Funny, when the Cubs play the Cards here in St.Lou they actually sell this at Busch stadium for the Cubs fans. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA May 1, 2004 At the Cubs game. Not awful, but not good. Not a clean tasting beer. A more hopppy, more bitter beer would be exceptional. The way it stands now, it needs help. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 16, 2004 Another typical Miller product. This beer may be OK to drink at a ball game on a 90 degree day when nothing else is available, but I can't think of any other reason to buy it (and I wouldn't pay 5 bucks a cup at a baseball game, either.) fomentateur (110), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 15, 2004 It's the Chicago Cub's annual "old style appreciation day" and some friends of mine are obligated to go. So, I joined in...and drank my obligatory Old Style. Outside of the fact that it is way overpriced and the person that handed me the beer expected a tip for no apparent reason, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the beer wasn't all that bad. The atmosphere was much worse than the beer itself. As for aroma, there was none that I could percieve over the smoke filled bar and cheap perfume. The appearance was that of an alumimum can, it did have a nice crisp snap as I popped the top. Overall the appearance was a cheap as the other patrons. As for flavor, if you can call it flavor, I was impressed. The flavor was the only nonoffensive characteristic in the bar. Little to no mouthfeel, crisp, dry finish, with a hint of malt character. Even though the can claims they dont use preservatives, I dont know why else they would put hops in this beer cause you sure cant taste them. As for bitterness, I would gather that what little bitterness I percieved came from the artificial carbonation. Would I drink it again? Of course...there is no other choice at Wrigley field. Next time I'm gonna sneak in a hoppy local micro to blend it with so I can taste my beer.
