2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 28, 2011
Bottle during Copenhagen Oldage in May 2006 - not sure whether it was actually at the festival or elsewhere (crap notes). Noted at 4.8% but it’s a bit of a scrawl. Copper colour. Big butterscotch aroma. A bit better on the palate - creamy toffee and caramel malt - although not exactly what I’d expect in an ESB. Not really a big hop presence either. I think something is amiss here. Would have flagged for re-rate but, since the brewery is defunct, that’s a no-hoper.

50 cL botte, thanks to Hildigöltur. Pours hazy orange and with a dense light orange to light brown head. Heavy barley and malt aroma, almost whiskey like. Flavour seems slight oxidised, but holds a deep caramel malt with a mild chocolate note. Slight acidic note at first. Finish holds more of the same malt flavour.

Bottle: Slightly hazy, amber coloured, no head to speak of, stronger fruity-malty nose with a distinctive "english" hoppy aroma; strong bitter flavour; typical fruity-malty finish with a good dash of bitterness, almost no carbonation. Typical "english" taste, a bit flat.........
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MoritzF (7402) - Bochum, GERMANY - NOV 19, 2007
(bottle, courtesy of Hildigöltur & Dixen) Hazy, chestnut colour with a tiny creamy layer. Moderately sweet toast-malty aroma with notes of caramel and a subtle fruity and slightly piney hoppy touch. Bitter flavour with a light malty sweetness, light bodied with a flat carbonation. Matured, slightly toasty malty taste with caramel and a lasting bitter hoppy finish. An overripe beer, that is still pretty drinkable without infection.
