Bland malt taste with insufficient hops. Good color. Small head. It tastes somewhat watery. A mass produced beer with little attention to detail.

I prefer this over the regular Heineken lager, but I think it is mainly because I prefer dark beers. The flavor is more syrupy of course: caramely, malty, maybe a little bit more hops to offset the sweets. Pours an copper-medium brown color. Not heavy though like a lot of other dark beers. They don’t offer it at a lot of places, especially with the flood of micro-brews flooding the market lately, but if they ever say "Heineken", ask if they have Heineken Dark if you haven’t tried it yet. Worth the try for sure if you like the regular Heiny Lager.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. This is a much better beer than their "green meenie". it is very flavorful and is lightly carbonated. Not often seen in the states but worth a try.

De geur en de kleur laten het ergste vermoeden, maar uiteindelijk valt de smaak goed mee. Gedronken in rillix

Special Dark: "wow...a Heineken CAN be drinkable. Not exactly earth shattering, but drinkable. I’m surprised. pours a pleasant brown/ruby, decent malty nose and flavor, if still a little light. as good or better than newcastle."

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a semi-dark red color with a light transparency about it to allow light streams of carbonated bubbles rising. The head was about a finger’s worth of white foaminess that dissipated within about a minute. Lacing was stringy and smooth. The smell had a fair toffee, light chocolate and a little bit of earthiness with a light apples. The taste was mainly sweet and bready. The apples come back slightly. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but still lending a decent smoothness about it too. Overall, this was a pretty good Vienna Lager I could see myself having again.
