Bottle. I found this small 25cl bottle at a Vietnamese restaurant in Hong Kong. A deep brown color with a foamy light brown head. The aroma has malt and caramel. The flavor is rich with molasses, caramel, and a burnt roasted character. This was a nice treat among all the bad beers available in Hong Kong.

Dark brown color. Sweet malty nose of dark chocolate toffee and cherries. Mouth is moderately sweet, not as full bodied as expected and depth isn’t quit there, but still an ok dopplebock - not a porter. I had a Vietnam restaurant in Hong Kong and I thought it was from Vietnam.

Bottle at Delirium Café, Brussels. Clear red brown coloured with a medium sized beige head. Light roasted aroma of caramel with notes of hay, dried fruits and liquorice. Light roasted and fruity flavour of yeast, dreid fruits and liquorice. Roasted finish.

(Bottle 25 cl) Very beautiful deep redbrown colour - far from black. Beautiful beige head that leaves some pretty laces even though it collapses almost completely. Malty, roasted aroma. Considering it’s strength the body is surprisingly light. Dry notes of burned malt, that also leaves some bitterness. Neat and accessible Porter. 140905

I get it. Porter 39 was first brewed in 1929. Makes sense. This one tries hard I suppose but because it is brewed by a giant I suppose a number of the subtleties get left out. This has promise with a good coffee nose and malty flavour. Better than the typical Euro lagers though so still not a bad find.

A flavourful brown beer. Strong and malty sweet with some chocolate notes. Too light to be a true porter.

Still looking dark beer with a strong dry aroma and a thick semi-dry flavour. Overall the beer tries to be dry and flavoursome but just fails on both counts.
