Looks and tastes like flat cola mixed with a dash of stale beer. Not quite the worst beer I’ve rated but pretty close. (Rated 14/6/2002 Hulst, Holland)

Nothing much to say about this one. Very sweet, tastes like Coke with beer (Mazout as we call it in Oostende). Typical dutch beer i think.

Oud Bruin is a typicle Dutch variation of a dark lager. Roasted barley is used for color and sugar is added to make it sweet. It’s mainly consumed by elderly and woman. In the southern part of the Netherlands it’s often mixed with normal Pilsener. I personally don’t like it the style but tried to rate it with an objective mind. And still this Heineken is not the greatest. Light caramel, light horseblanket aroma. Dark ruby color, light brown frothy head, no real lacing (I think the added sugar does that). Sweet, candy, caramel, watery. Short sweet and light finish.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2008 Ah, memories. This is the beer my mother always drank. Dominant sweetness, some liquorice, even some cola-flavour. I only drink this once a year i think, at the Chinese restaurant at my parents’ place. But i always like it. No place like home :-).

To mu opinion a lot of sugar has been put in it, and Table Beer (light beer, used for consumption by the whole family during soupers) wouldn’t like to be compared with it. This beer has dissapointed me, and it seems very like a limonade with some alcohol in it. :-(
