Commercial Description:
Wandering in the Black Forest, a Heinzelmännchen met up with a Scottish lass and they shared their favorite ale recipes. This meeting created the perfect marriage of Scottish and German culture with this result: a Scottish style ale reddish brown in color, light in body and bursting with flavor. This slightly hoppy kilted gnome offers a clean, warming alcohol finish without the bitterness. Pair with haggis or schinken.

tap @ Heinzelmannchen and 2liter growler to go. pours brown/ruby with thin bewige head. aroma and taste, roasted malts, brown sugar, light fruity notes; figs, med carbonation with some lingering sweetness in teh finish.Found it to be an interesting approach to the style and definitely keeps elements of their pilsener base they use to brew their beers. Too bad that at 7.5abv some of the ingredients seem too muted.

Pours ruby color that is has a unique smell with alcohol. Tastes hoppy with tons of alcohol. Not one of my favorites, tastes kind of flat with to much alcohol.

Growler from the brewery. Pours a brownish red color with a huge frothy beige head. Aroma is light. Flavor is caramel and roast. Very light on the hops with a strong alcohol finish. This was the best batch yet. Rerate, after it was in the growler for a couple days the carbonation diminished greatly but the hop character came out and the alcohol wasn’t as harsh, don’t know why. Congrats to Dieter for winning a bronze metal on his Weise Gnome Hefeweizen this weekend in Hickory.

Sampled @ brewgrass 07. Poured a reddish color with a thin white head. Had small hints of caramel, roasted malts, and spices. Finished clean and light on the tongue.

tasted at brewery. this beer offers a complexity, something hides behind this one, maybe the smoked peat. pours a light brown, notice alchohol warmth but not overpowering.

on tap-pours a light tan head and amber/brown color. Aroma is malt-caramel. Taste is malt-caramel, smoky, good secondary hops, alcohol just noticeable.

Draught at the brewery. Pours amber with a really big beige head. The aroma is malt and caramel with a little bit of alcohol. The flavor has a bunch of high alcohols (despite the brewmaster personally telling me that the malts mask the alcohol). There are some other caramel and smoke flavors in there, but the jet fuel quality really ruins it for me. Maybe if he put this in a cask and let it sit for a while it would get better.
