HELLEKAPELLE from Brouwerij de Bie is an unusual pale ale with a straw color, hoppy aroma, light to medium body and clean malty flavor. It’s bitterness that starts in the middle of the palate and dominates through to the finish comes from Poperinge hops, wonderful thirst quencher.

Bottle from Beer Planet. Soapy yellow body with poppy head. Nose is hoppy and yeasty. Taste was quite sour at first, strange for a blonde and yeasty as well. Bitter in the finish. Okay. Not my thing.

3/11/2011 33cl bottle @ home - bottlesd: 11/2009 (2011-612)

Note: I was a bit afraid when I saw the bottle was already two years old, being a blond 5% beer. But apparently it held up pretty well, maybe even got better?

Clear blond beer, thick creamy off-white head, stable, little adhesive. Aroma: flowers, bit sugary, sweet grains. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, quite some citrus fruits, honey, ripe fruits, some metallic touch. Aftertaste: some green bananas, still a bit metallic, little stale, but that’ll be the age.

Bottle. It pours an unclear, golden colored body with some microfloaties and a finger thick off-white head. It’s fruity and grassy on the nose, with some yeast and a cheesy touch. The flavor is sweet and fruity, almost sugary sweet, and with a faint touch of herbs. Low on bitterness I think. Medium body, and a very metallic finish. A beer that I can’t really decide if I like or not, it’s nice in many ways, but also a bit unclean. 110430

A golden honey pour with a giant white, tight head. Plenty of lacing as the head slowly dies down. Slight carbonation releasing small amount of bubbles from the bottom. Malt and hoppy aroma. Smells like a pils, in line with Pilsner Urquell. There is a slight sour aroma as well. Sweet up front, metallic in the middle and aftertaste. Dry, bitter, and way off base. Not good at all.
