COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
HELLEKAPELLE from Brouwerij de Bie is an unusual pale ale with a straw color, hoppy aroma, light to medium body and clean malty flavor. It’s bitterness that starts in the middle of the palate and dominates through to the finish comes from Poperinge hops, wonderful thirst quencher.

Faintly hazy pale gold with large fine bubbled lasting head. Very attractive fruit (peach & pineapple) cider hoppy soapy aroma. Medium smooth body. Unusual bitter then mellow sweet nectar flavoured start. Increasingly bitter middle and light woody yeast and bitter finish. They have quite wondorous things with the hops on this beer and can’t understand why others have rated it quite so lowly.

Murky, heavily creamed coffee color with a thin dense head of white foam. Minute carbonation. Sassy aroma with tropical fruit mixing with musty yeast and pasty dough. Biting, crisp and sharp on the first sip with a mellow nature underneath. Notes of pineapple, kiwi and acidic melon atop a rich, doughy malt base. Yeasty sharpness is tangy and almost sour. Hop bitterness and flavor are not apparent. Remains crisp and sharp throughout, but never spritzy. Light bodied. Finishes thicker, awash in tropical fruitiness and with a yeasty zest. A handsome brew of such light stature.

Very blond beer. Milky if you pour everything. The aroma is hoppy, soapy and fruity. The taste is sweet hop with a yeasty bitter finish. The label, a purple flying bitch does look a bit cheap.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2003 Great aroma - pears, apples, citrus, sweet, light hops. Small off-white head over golden cloudy beer - almost luminescent. Medium fizzy with medium-heavy body, bit chalky from sediment. Alcohol. White wine flavor, grape, honey, citrus. Decent bitter end/finish. Champagne. Great tasting beer.

Bottle, 33 cl. Pale light yellow color, big white head. Aroma: sweetish of caramel and a good touch of hops. Taste this beer was long ago yesterday (a great summer day) outdoor at "Bietje ter Doest" it was very refreshing. A light drinkable beer ! Good brew.

Drinkable ale went down well with a clean malty flavor. Only draw back is that it is very yeasty.

The beer as it pours from the bottle a tenebrous golden orange color, the head portly in size, frothy in texture, and the residue forms a fine sheet of lace to cover the glass. The nose sweet, light hints of yeast, orange peel, fresh and clean, quite appealing to the senses. Start is mostly malt, somewhat tart, top is slender in its feel to the palate, finish has a moderate to light acidity, hops are delightful in their spicy presence, aftertaste long lasting and slightly bitter, quite a pleasant little brew.

Straw colour. This is undoubtedly a hop-head's beer. Quite tart and refreshing. Cut effortlessly through the sweetish aftertaste left by all those dubbels and strong ales I had drunk earlier. Difficult to judge how it would shape up in isolation (I note that others have not been so impressed) but, in the circumstances, it was just about perfect. Bottled, Brugse Beertje, Bruges, September 2003.

Hazy yellow/orange, nice lasting white head. Very spicy aroma, hoppy and with juniperberriy. Hoppy flavor with grapefruit, juniperberry, pine and some fruits. A bit odd but pleasant.

Pours a cloudy colour, quite a lot of sediment, nice aroma, some citric fruit in there. Nice spicey taste, tastes stronger than it is alcohol wise, good hop flavours. Good example of the style, nothing particularly unique about it, but it tastes nice.
