Rastacouere (5196), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 4, 2007 Hazy copper lager crowned by a lasting off-white ring. The first whiff reveals an undesired yeasty spiciness (peppery) to go with the tame fruity malts. Bordering on toastiness, but staying shy of it, a mellow bready feel is quickly toppled by the agressive bubbles. Citrusy/leafy hop quickie upon the finish with a certain dry-out effect when paired with the bubbly carbonation. Light-bodied, short-flavoured, kinda weak offering. Glouglouburp (1852), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 25, 2007 In short: Basic amber lager with a fruity twist. No surprise.
How: One of seven glasses shared with WeeHeavySD. NOTE: This is part of the first batch of beers they brewed. Drank within a week of the brewpub opening. Things may (and hopefully will) change a lot. I will re-sample in a little while.
The look: Partly cloudy redish-copper body with a small off-white head.
In long: The aroma shows off the lager yeast with notes of dried fruits, apples, raisins, strawberries and what not. Not strong or intense, just here and there. Taste is juicy (above mentioned fruits) with hard-candies (the not-sweet kind) and leafy hops. Finish is dry and grassy like many of their beers that night. Body is a bit fluffy. All in all this wasn’t very tasty despite me listing of bunch of flavours. I’ve got a good news and a bad news… The good news: this is to my taste the best of the seven beers they had on that night. The bad news: this is to my taste the best of the seven beers they had on that night.
WeeHeavySD (1510), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Oct 22, 2007 1st rating. Shared wtih Glouglouburp @ the Brew pub on its second night. Pours red amber with an off white ring head. The nose was sweet with a malty edge, but still somewhat empty. Taste is has a malty character bitter, has a bit of a typical amber lage vibe, yet I so rarely drink this style I don’t know what too think, seems like too much bitterness to me.
