2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 probstblueribbon (1969) - Nepean, - JAN 4, 2010
Sample at the brewpub. DE 19/09.
App.: Deep brown-black, rim of tan.
Aroma: Some nice chocolate and dark chocolate, a little chalky, banana esters??, a touch vinous, nice enough.
Palate: Medium body, sparse effervescence.
Flav.: A touch grapy, some dark coffee, a bit ashen, not as interesting as the nose; dry with fair bitterness and an alright malt/dark chocolate finish.
Drinkable, but not terribly enjoyable.

Oatmeal stout. Drank on tap at the brewery. Little head and lacing. Strong coffee taste, almost burnt. And some burnt nuts. Very dark stout. An OK oatmeal stout.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lubiere (6988) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 14, 2010
Called Helm Noire. A deep dark stout with a thin creamy moka head. In aroma, nice bitter chocolate, doughy with light alcohol. In mouth, a nice light bitter chocolate with mineral notes, toasted burned character, vanilla notes, medium bodied. On tap at brewpub, Dec. 19 2009.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 22, 2009
My Bottom Line:
This run-of-the-mill Stout juxtaposes caramel and chocolate malt flavors to blueberry esters in a sessionable mouthfeel.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers brownish-black.
-The malts offer biscuity angles as well.
-The finish is a fading out of the flavor profile.
-I’d prefer a more important hop presence.
On tap at the brewpub.

Bu sur place en fut (12 oz), le 26/3/08. Brune noirecie, moyen collet. Arome de malte légèrement torrifier et de café crème. Goût de café peu amère, un peu aqueuse mais passable. Bien mais elle n’est pas assez malté!
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Glouglouburp (4783) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 26, 2007
In short: Watery basic cereal mixture. Extremely boring and not even a stout.
How: One of seven glasses shared with WeeHeavySD. NOTE: This is part of the first batch of beers they brewed. Drank within a week of the brewpub opening. Things may (and hopefully will) change a lot. I will re-sample in a little while.
The look: Dark brown body with a long-lasting small beige head
In long: Aroma of a wet piece of cloth. Very watery, barely any roastiness, lifeless body, no hops. That beer felt like malts that have soaking in water for a few days. Like they made it to the wort and forgot about the rest of the brewing steps. Drop a generic commercial brown cake in a mixer with an equal part of water and that’s what you get. By the end some red fruits notes were coming out of it. Not even tasty enough to be really offensive. Its best feature is Montreal’s tap water which is of excellent quality.

1st rating. Shared wtih Glouglouburp @ the Brew pub on its second night. First bad sign this is a stout that isn’t black it ain’t even close. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Some malts in the nose, light dry nose, not as bad as the look. Malty dry watery taste with a little bit of roasty malt.
