COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our red India pale ale is a sterling example of excess. We use copious amounts of both malts and hops to create this decidedly bitter yet curiously balanced beer. As its namesake implies it is more than capable of overloading the unsuspecting pallet just with a lot less mutton chops and frock coats. Big caramel, big malts and even bigger resinous citrus hop flavor and aroma. This beer pairs well with BBQ, Curry, Spicy foods and pungent cheeses.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2014 Pours a slightly hazy dark amber copper color decent head. Aroma is not in a bad way but like a passion fruit hair soap and cherry cigars. Taste interestingly enough follows the aroma well. Rather different from the usual. Leaves a roasted Smokey cherry malt note on the back end but not in a bad way. Medium mouth feel. Pretty good :-)And slightly different.

Bottle from trade I have had about a month. Deep copper color with very persistent pillowy head. Nose is nice orange citrus and pine, with some caramel malt. First few sips were good with solid malt core, but hop driven bitter finish. Don’t know what happened but took on a wet dog very bitter character after that. Maybe over the hill for this one. Would like to try fresher.

8 Mar 2014, tap at Helm's Brewing. Light ruby, clear, no bubbles. Nose is toasty red ale. Med body and lightly fizzy. Lightly sweet red ale, mild grassy hops. Pretty good. I like the balance between sweet malt and light hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at ’the local’ San Diego. Dark amber IPA with a rich thick head. Spicy hop nose and a good rye kick, went down well with my spicy lunch

650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a beautiful amber-red-brown color with a small beige head that soon fades to a fine film. The aroma is strong with pine, citrus and roasted barley. The taste mirrors the aroma with bitter hoppy pine in the forefront, followed by grapefruit and finished off by spicy grains. The palate is full and smooth with lively carbonation. Finishes medium and dry. Overall: Better than average red IPA, but a 8.99 a bottle not good enough to buy again.

Pours very dark brown with some red hues and a thin tan head. The nose is caramel, molasses, rye spice. The taste is high sweet and low bitter with a more sweet finish. The texture is creamy, body is heavy and the finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at the brewery. Rating #3. I enjoyed this IPA, had a real nice spicy rye presence, good stuff. (2635)

On tap. Pours with a hazed deep amber hued body with next to no head. Aromas are sweet, a bit boozy for 7.3%, some marzipan, spicy, sweet peach and floral hops. Estery. Flavors are grainy, grassy and spicy with some malt tannic extracted astringent bitterness. Very little hop flavor, maybe a bit of resin. Lots of caramel sweetness. Despite the poor formation/retention, there was reasonably high carbonation (2.6+).

A somewhat dark amber colored beer with an off-white head. Sweet malt and toffee aromas, a decent amount of rye and some nice hops. Mostly floral aromas, but some mild grapefruit peel and pine. Nice balance of sweetness and bitterness to the flavor. Rye, toffee, and toasted bread up front with some grapefruit peel, floral hops, and pine on the finish.
