some chocolatey roast, a little bit of caramel, nothing too special but drinkable.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 KingPinHead (390) - Des Moines, Washington, USA - SEP 29, 2002
Actually some real malt apparent in the aroma--amazing for a macro-product...Color a clear brown with a better-than-average macro-head...drizzled lace...Flavor is sufficiently malty to immediately recommend it over 90% of macro-lagers...Hop-top provides bite, along with carbonation that is a bit excessive...finish is slightly dry, slightly tangy...Overall, a very respectable mainstream product at a good price...
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BarePaw (148) - Pullman, Washington, USA - SEP 7, 2002
Nothing spectacular, but it is good for the price.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ringo (963) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - SEP 4, 2002
This is really not so bad! And it is cheap too. I think they even put some malt in it.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 drismyhero (815) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - AUG 22, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 6, 2003 I actually liked this, especially for a Weinhards. Nothing really outstanding, just more of the same, only darker. A great transitional beer, but nothing to quench the stout lover"s thirst.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gregory (357) - Pullman, Washington, USA - AUG 7, 2002
I’m a stout lover, and still think this is fairly decent. The palate is nice, the flavor is dark, and lager like, but a hell of a lot better than an american standard. Give me this one again.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Merc (313) - Pullman, Washington, USA - AUG 7, 2002
I do have a soft place in my heart for dark lagers, so I may be a bit forgiving. Sweet caramel flavour and aroma. Even a smidgen of hops. Smooth palate. Expect a stout/porter and you’ll be dissapointed, but is a huge step up from their american standard. Over carbonated.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 HH (165) - Everett, Washington, USA - JUL 15, 2002
Not bad for a dark lager. Stout lovers don’t bother. It does go pretty good with pizza. Try it.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 crdic (105) - California, USA - JUN 15, 2002
An adequate dark lager if there’s nothing better around. Weak, watery body, nothing really distinctive about it, but inoffensive. When I’m at a party hosted by people who know nothing about real beer, I always hope they at least have some of this in the house.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 weusebio (69) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 9, 2002
Not as dark as I would choose, but a good beer nonetheless. Give this to your budmillercoors drinking friends to work them into better stuff.
