COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark lager with the color of a stout, yet none of the bitterness. Brewed from a rich blend of six malts and Cascade, Cluster and Mt. Hood hops, for a uniquely smooth taste.
Availability: October through March.

Bottle: Dark brown, very dark, minimal head, tannish, spotty lacing.   Roasty nose, slight lactose like sweetness.   Lightly roasted malt flavor, somewhat coffeeish, sweet to start but a tad dry on the finish.   More of an ale than a lager, at least to me.   Hop presense right up front, dies down slowly.   Average body and mouthfeel.   Semi-sweet lactose like finish on a bed of roasted malts with just a smidgen of hop bitterness.   Not half bad.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is clear dark brown. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, roasted nuts), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Fizzy as could be, and not the cleanest flavor, but otherwise not too shabby.

Dark amber color, light tan head. Nose of light chalky roast and fruit. The flavor is light and sweet, some raost & fruit. Fairly boring mouthfeel though. Finishes light and smooth. Decent.

This is new and out for 2005 and wow this was a great beer. I liked the flavor, aroma and the overall tones this ber brought out. A special limited edition I think they got right. It is a dark winter beer with great overall taste to drink. Good Job I will try another. Beer SNOBS will like this beer.

This has a pretty good roasty creamy aroma. Flavor is better than the rest of the H.W. beers as well. Some roast, nuttiness, malt and cream. Actually a pretty good beer.

A dark beer with a hinkt of red when held to the light. Poured little head and had a light malt taste and mild sweet hoppy taste. An OK beer, but nothing special.

Poured deep, almost black, with clear, amber highlights and a thin ring of a head. Aroma is roasty with mostly malt on the nose. Very refreshing and a lot of caramel flavors up front but kind of fell short towards the finish and was a little sour, tangy, and unbalanced.

Inexpensive at $9.99 a 12-pack. Poured a dark brown with a soild off-white head and good lacing. Nose of roasted malts, and some chocolate. Mouthfeel good and rich. Flavor of chocolate and roasted malts. Good clean finish. Ver good for the price.

This dark brown offering from Weinhard’s has a sweet carmel smell that is mostly pleasant, but for the staleness that accompanies it. This beer tastes like a darker version of macro American pilseners--with it having more of a malty and caramelly sweeteness. This beer is light on the body for a dark beer and is rather one dimensional with no detectable hopping.
