Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isnít as big a problem, weíve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. Itís a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

Bottle: Pours a golden color with a light white head. The nose is earthy with some light citrusy hops and a light pale malt note. The flavor is medium bodied, middle-of-the-road hops in the flavor. Fairly low key as far as west coast IPAs go.

Bottle. Pours a deep gold color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is predominately of pine and hops, but a little hay and citrus is there too. The flavor, while fairly smooth, lacks just a bit of character. The finish is fairly good, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Donít misunderstand--this is not a bad beer! It just has a lot of competition in the IPA market, so Iím being critical. Iíd like to pair this brew with some fresh seafood and a mixed green salad.

Aroma of hops, cirrus, grass, and chemicals. pours a golden beautifulness. the flavor is lacking the most, tastes more like a pale ale. overall, i believe that this is the best of the weinhards line.

This is not an overpowering IPA, very sublte flavors, just barely a step up from an APA. Light caramel maltiness, with thin citrus hoppiness, and quite clean, but never aggressive or exciting on the palate in the slightest.

12oz freebee from riversideAK, thanks! Poured a golden amber color with fluffy head. Lots of lace on this IPA. Malty aroma with some hints of spices and pines. Tangy dirty taste at first then a malty caramel/toffe body. Not a bad beer.

Bottle purchases at Belmont Station in Portland, OR--Clear orange-copper body with a thin yet frothy white head. Nutty, bready fruity nose. Sharp, tangy mouthfeel. Floral, creamy, bitter, oily, slightly cloying flavor. Surprisingly delicious beer.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2014 Pours a copper/amber color, with little to no head. Carbonation is distinct from first glance. Goes down fairly smooth, hoppy flavor is apparent but not near a strong level. There is a hint of caramel malt, could have actually been a little bit more malt flavor as the Northwest hops in this beer tend to taste a little skunky and more malt might have balanced that a little better. Very thin, but a good value because of the extremely low price. Average.
