Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isn’t as big a problem, we’ve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

Straight from the bottle at a friend’s party. Couldn’t assess the appearance. Minimal insight into the aroma. This beer is emblematic of those that made me think I didn’t like IPAs. Weak hoppy flavor, malt-forward, uninteresting. Not recommended.

Bottle. Very light golden color on this, delivers a decent little fuzzy head. Light and pleasantly quaffable, comes off with a bit more of a malty character than you’d expect for the label, bit starchy, too perhaps. Decent center of the scale pale ale. (#5298, 10/19/2013)

Watered down IPA. Got it at O’Charlies. So....I guess it is a macro lovers IPA? As a shirt of mine says, "Don’t Drink Pee" and this is not.

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark amber with a large, creamy off-white head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and nutty malt with earthy and minty hops, and pear esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness with supporting malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

On tap. This is to IPA what the Giants are to football this year: directionless, uninteresting, uninspiring and completely forgettable. Only problem I can see with that comparison is that the Giants might be able to improve a little.

12 FL oz bottle from a shop in Zion in US. Clear light orange body with a white head. Malty aroma. Taste is bread, a little sweet, soft bitter finish. Strong carbonation. Not an IPA, but rather and pilsner. ***

Bottle at the South Carolina BBQ competition. Didn’t really see the color or detect an aroma because we drank it from the bottle. Taste is slightly peppery caramel. Not much to this one.

This is not a bad beer per se. The thing is that is advertised with so much pompous wording and its just not as good or good at all considering that. Looks like an ambrr lager with almost no head, not very hoppy for an IPA, decent bitterness and some caramel. No aroma and no palate worth of noting. Basically, a bad massively produced IPA for the mini market that you can always choose over the pletora of mediocre american lagers.

18 sept 2013, bottle. Yellow, clear, some steady bubbles. Nose is light granola malt and mild lemon rind citrus. Thin body and moderately fizzy. Mild lemon citrus over granola malt. Mediocre n ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle - Pours slightly hazy orange with a small, lingering head. It has a mild aroma suggesting citrus hops. The flavor is definitely on the low end of bitterness for the style. Sweet caramel malt is there. Light bodied. Mild bitterness. Okay to drink but it has plenty of room for improvement.
