COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isnít as big a problem, weíve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. Itís a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

12 ounce bottle from a Kroger. Pours a crystal clear amber color with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of floral and herbal hops with a bit of a soapy note. The taste is herbal and citrus hops. Pale malts. Medium bodied. Decent but pretty bland.

Clear copper color with a medium foamy white head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of hops, malt and citrus. Light to medium body with flavors of citrusy hops and roasted malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Unmemorable overall.

3fourths (8228) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 14, 2008
Bottle. Light and simple, as expected. Nose has a definite buttered corn note to go with clean malt and medium grassy hop presence. Brisk and grassy hops but pale and simple throughout. Lightly drying, simple but flavorful green hops, but lacks any sort of juiciness or freshness, rather itís dried grass and pale malt. Simple, uninspired, par for the course for HW, but overall itís drinkable and pleasent.

Bottle from Caponeís. Pours clear dark straw with 2-finger frothy off-white head. Nose is resiny hops, tannins, mild fruit. Tastes of hops, mild ale and bitter malt and hop profile, and a pilsy, somewhat watery finish. OK, but not great.

Bottle. Honey, barley malt, and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet orange malt and lightly bitter orange peel flavor. Medium body. I seem to remember Henry Weinhard beers were a whole lot better in the mid 90s - most likely because they beat most of the crap available back then.

mundane as it gets. Sweet malt, insipid malt flavor, no hops. No character. Cashing in.

Bottled. Poured clear, bright golden with a short white head. The aroma picked up sweet honey and caramel malts with just a little resiny pine and citrus hops coming through.. quite malty and not that interesting. The flavor found sweet caramel and biscuity malts at the core, with fruity hops joining spicy pine and earthy notes around.. more peppery on the finish. Light-medium bodied and spicy on the palate with some prickly carbonation.. a tad metallic on the middle and back.. overall an OK brew.

12oz bottle pours with a clear deep copper body that supports an off white head of foam. The aroma offers up sugary malt sweetened tangerine and orange peel notes as well as some citrus gummy bears. The taste has an odd sweet nutty sort of lager-y note to it mixing with soft sugar sweetened citrus hops. It gets to tepid levels of citrus hop bitterness to midway but those "hop" notes quickly fade as malts surge forward into the finish. Not sure Iíd try this again unless it was free as the malts and bits of hops arenít coming together too well.
