COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isn’t as big a problem, we’ve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a hazy burnt orange appearance with an off white head. Earthy, herbal, woody, grassy hoppy, biscuity aroma. A bit tangy, lightly fruity, chewy cracker, pale malty, herbal, grassy flavor. Bleh.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with riversideAK. Poured a medium and clear golden color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of hay, floral hops, and earthy. Tastes were muted and consisted of citrus, caramel, and hay. Thin body.

Clear copper color with a medium foamy white head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of hops, malt and citrus. Light to medium body with flavors of citrusy hops and roasted malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy aftertaste. Unmemorable overall.

Tap at Rhino. Clear orange pour. Good white lacing. Nose is red apples, baked apple. Taste is metallic, mealy apple. Very chalky, powdery mouthfeel. Loads of bland mealy apple.

mundane as it gets. Sweet malt, insipid malt flavor, no hops. No character. Cashing in.

Bottle. Honey, barley malt, and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet orange malt and lightly bitter orange peel flavor. Medium body. I seem to remember Henry Weinhard beers were a whole lot better in the mid 90s - most likely because they beat most of the crap available back then.

Bottle. Light and simple, as expected. Nose has a definite buttered corn note to go with clean malt and medium grassy hop presence. Brisk and grassy hops but pale and simple throughout. Lightly drying, simple but flavorful green hops, but lacks any sort of juiciness or freshness, rather it’s dried grass and pale malt. Simple, uninspired, par for the course for HW, but overall it’s drinkable and pleasent.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours clear dark straw with 2-finger frothy off-white head. Nose is resiny hops, tannins, mild fruit. Tastes of hops, mild ale and bitter malt and hop profile, and a pilsy, somewhat watery finish. OK, but not great.

Pint on draft at Flipdaddy’s. Clear yellow orange color. Good thin off-white head. Good lace. Flavor is pretty mild for an IPA. More like a moderately hoppy pale ale, with a weak malt back bone. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry texture. Decent bitterness. OK, but weak for an IPA

BVery (7881) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - DEC 21, 2013
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2013 Bottle. Light orange pour with a white head. Pale caramel malt and stale hops on the nose. Lighter palate that is somewhat crisp. Pretty much a letdown.
