Pours a deep amber with a thin off white head. As it warms, notes of roasted grain, licorice, toffee and chocolate malt start to pop through in the aroma. Thick chewy body brings out notes of toffee, chocolate and hints of roasted grain. Very nice session brew.

Bottle. Dark burgundy-brown pour with a smaller white head. Nose is roasty with a bit of dark fruit sweetness. Palate is a bit thin. Taste is coffee, some mild dark fruit, and a bit of malt. Kind of bland.

polomagnifico (940) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - APR 13, 2012
Bottle. Aroma has notes of sweet roasted malts, coffee, maple syrup and molasses. Dark brown hue with small off-white head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is heavy sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Overall an interesting brew with a complex malty nose. Body is too light and the flavors while complex still feel cheap and not very rich. Too bad, it had potential.

Malts and some complexity/sweetness in aroma. The flavor is chocolate, malts, and a decent complexity. Not incredible but a very solid ale.

Very good brew. Pours very dark with a small off white head. Taste is very nice, roasted malt bur not to heavy. Finish is dry, complex and makes you want to take another sip.

Molasses and light coffee aromas on the nose. Classic Old Ale pours a dark amber with a thin white head. Coffee and molasses flavors upfront with hints of fennel. Pretty good.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2011) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, roasted malt, nuts, coffee and chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, caramel, crisp-bread, raisin, biscuits and a slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced and quite tasty. Nice one.
