3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kvnstfrd (27) - Branson, Missouri, USA - DEC 28, 2012
Pours a very hazy, and very dark amber with a small off-white head. Some sticky lacing.
Smell is earthy English malts, fruit, slightly citrusy.
Taste is typical biscuity English malts, toffee. Hops are a pleasant, tea-like bitterness, not citrusy at all.
Light to medium body, carbonation is mild. Nice finish, not too dry. Bitterness not strong, but lasts. Good ale.

Caramel malt, bread, and a little orange in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet with caramel and toffee. Finishes with some hop bitterness and a little sour flavor. I liked this better than the rating indicated--good, easy drinking beer.

Bottle thanks to Helen and Keith. Dark bronze in this light with a fat, level white foam. Sensible, slightly herbal, aniseed-like English hop aroma streaked with attractive peanut butter notes and a red jellied fruit, Sheps hint. Soft and stony with hints of almond, wholemeal crackers, aniseed and caramel-drizzled pear. Honestly. Safe but good.
