Very nice aroma. Dec 04 stamp. Old and woody flavour. Would like to try fresher. Slightly reminiscent of Coniston Bluebird.

Sept, 2002: Bottle - Beer Station. This ’first class ale’ is a delicious beer with a strong hit of dark chocolate followed by a long smooth mouthful of malt, finishing with a long sigh of dry, flowery hops. An outstanding example of traditional British ale. [3.1]
Jan, 2005: Bottle - Hepworth. A clean beer with some caramel flavours. Well behaved and quite smooth. [2.9]

I am not really fond of bitter beers but this one stands out. Nice head, nice bite and rather bitter aftertaste.

Bottled. Deep ornage colour. Neutral aroma. Sweet and fruity with clean maltiness. A tremendously bitter finish gives the impression that you have been drinking ink.

[cask ale] Good fruity, flowery and hoppy aroma. The flavour is bitter and dry. A good real ale.

Hops are pronounced in this beer in both aroma and flavour. As good a bitter as many others with a nice refreshing character.
