dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2007 12/27/07 - Winter Road Trip ’07 - Draft sample at brewpub. Dark black w/ red hues, thin, off-white head. OK lacing. Nose of alcohol, chocolate and toffee. Big old sweet, spice, chocolate and toffee taste. A bit thin, but a myriad of flavors. Alcohol warmth and flavor. This is my first Baltic Porter. Its good. A very good beer. I like the style. Bitter is there, but not "RIS Bitter".
FROTHINGSLOSH (1807), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 16, 2008 Sampled on draft at the Cranberry PA location this beer poured a very dark brown color with a small creamy brown head that lingered forever. The aroma was sweet, roasty malts with a moderate sweet chocolate presence. The flavor was creamy roasty malts with light chocolate followed by a bitter roasty malt punch and a long dryish roasty malt finish. Interesting and complex as the flavors crash over you in waves but a bit drier than I prefer in this style. Naka (521), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2008 Sampler at Cranberry location. Pours dark black with a tan head. Sweet caramel malt with a hit of hops and alcohol. A lot of alcohol in the flavor, but also has a lot of caramel and roasted flavors. A great thick texture with little carbonation. Finishes dry. cheapdark (1900), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2007 On tap at the Cranberry location. Good attractive roasty aroma. Typical odor of many nice stouts and porters. Very nice example of a dark beer. Black with a tan head. Some red tinge visible on the corners. Barely any carbonation is detectable. Almost flat like a dry stout. Stronger than most porters but not quite as strong as I was expecting for a baltic. Hides the 7% very well. Comes across as an enjoyable baltic porter and I usually do not appreciate that style. Bitterness builds on the palate with each sip. Overall, not a bad dark beer. Has more personality than most porters but is not offensive like many baltics. Plays that gray area between the two styles. Mild medium length bitterness on the finish. Nate (2466), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2007 On tap at Cranberry, PA location. Rich chocolately nose, with mild soy, coffee, and toasted grains. Mild bitterness of hops. Dark black-brown clear with thin tan head. Medium body, smooth with loght carbonation. Starts sweetcwith coffee and chocolate, roasted grain, Twizzlers, and mild soy sauce. Finishes with mild nutty-sweet biterness and cloying chocolatey bitter after. Nice porter.
