Cask: Special - JDW Autumn Fest 2010.
This new, naturally cloudy wheat beer has been brewed exclusively for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It is created using pale Pilsener malts and wheat, with hops exclusively from the Savinja Valley, producing a continental-style beer with a floral nose and herbal, spicy undertones.

From cask. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is dry estery and slight wheaty/yeasty. Dry, slight spiced, phenolic and estery flavoured. Dry and spiced finish. Somewhat bitter too.

Spoons Fest! Very hazy gold beer, Gost of a head. Smooth very low carbonation palate. Mild banana, a little cloves. Fair bit of wheaty malt. Tiny bit of orangey citrius before a smooth finish. A little more carbonation would have been nice but decent enough.

Cask. Pours cloudy, orange-gold with a soft, off-white and foamy head. Banana and spice in the nose with some yeast and dough. Has medium sweetness with notes of banana, clove and honey, plus a lightly bitter touch. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet and fruity on the finish with light spice and yeast. Nice beer.

Cask handpull at Victoria Station, JDW, Victoria. Cloudy orange/gold. Thin white head. Banana estery aroma. Some very good spicyness on finish. I mean 10/10 for effort. A real attempt at a German Weisse. It’s just a little eathy and dirty and maybe not enough wheat as it’s a touch watery. It’s ok, and top marks for the attempt, but it’s not great. Strained.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Clouded orange gold with slight head. Hmmm, tempting to mark this up a little for going totally crazy at a style and missing the mark. Nothing subtle about this, heavy spicing on the nose, yeasty, lemon pancake and altogether a little weird. Some banana. Not mad about it.

Half, cask at Standing Order (JDW). Naturally cloudy, amber body. Naked surface. Aroma of plums and apricot. Cloves and sweet citric, ripe fruits in flavour. Notes of fruity yeastiness towards the ending. Very much on the sweet side (Edinburgh, 29.11.2010).

Cask, Last Plantagenet, Leicester. Hazy gold and orange with a thin head. Aromas are yeasty with banana and citrus. Caramel with spices, including coriander. Flavours are smooth, sweet caramel followed by tart citrus and yeast. Medicinal notes with yeast. Dry on the finish. Not bad.

Cask, handpump at The Babbington, JDW, Derby, Derbyshire 06.11.10 This is a hazy pourer as I expected. Some banana, touch floral, bit of clove. This is far better than I expected but then perhaps it’s because I was drinking this alongside the Thwaites Ribble Rouser (truly boring) and The Freeminer, Hairway to Steaven (Dad took this back) Spiciness as well showing in the mouth. It’s fine. A6 A3 T6 P4 Ov13 3.2

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2010 1)The Ritz, Lincoln. Muddy orange with a saliva-like halo. Jammy apricot and clove aroma with a scatter of earth and authenticity. Acidic and earthy with clove, biscuit crumbs; mouldy banana and TCP-swilled ashtray hints. Has a good go but let down by condition. 525312. 2) The Felix Holt, Nuneaton. Proper conditioning this time. Authentic clovey spice and banana. Definitely in the top 5 English hefeweizens I’ve encountered- upgraded to 637313.
