Chocolate Hazelnut Porter

22 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma is full of syrupy hazelnut sweet character. Reminds me a lot of Rogue’s. Not much else happening in the aroma, Light toast. I love that hazelnut character, though. Eseentially opaque black body with a medium, strong, tan head present. Good lacing. Starts with a nice sweet, chocolate character, before a little roasty malts comes through in the middle with a good dose of hazelnut. Finishes with some sweetness and a bit of a roastiness with some coffee character later, too. This is velvety smooth. A true dessert/coffee-head beer.

Pours black with a fading tan head. Nose shows chocolate and hazelnut, mainly hazelnut. Pretty much ferrero rocher in a glass. Awesome. Some bready malt too. Flavours include more of the same, but with more of a bitter cocoa note and a fair bit of roasted malt. Body could be a bit richer/creamier.

Bottle shared @ ChrisO after GBBF Day 1. Dark brown to black color, small lightly brown head. Aroma is malts, indeed a lot of chocolate, vanilla, lots of hazelnuts as well. Taste malts, chocolate, hazelnuts, lightly vanilla, lightly roasty, a bit sweet initially and slightly chocolate bitter in the finish. A bit thin texture, medium body, medium carbonation. Could use a bit more viscosity. Nice when a beer is actually what the name says it is.

International IPA day train tasting with Kenny, all aboard the 15.50 from Waterloo to Sirenville, 01/08/14. Light black with a moderate tan covering that thins then retains. Nose is nutty, light roast, cocoa powder, Nutella. Taste comprises hazlenut, Cadburys Fruit and Nut (case), cocoa powder, toffee fudge, trace of dark fruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough porter.

Bottle courtesy of Craig and shared at Cropredy ’Fairports Annual Reunion’ Festival, Cropredy, Oxon, Friday 8th August 2014 Pours dark brown with lashings of hazelnut and chocolate on the nose. These two unsurprisingly also combine in the mouth leading to a smooth, sweet beery nutty chocolate spread type of thing going on, the coffee a bit part player in proceedings. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

[Bottle] Pours a jet black color with a frothy brown head on top. Foam calms to a nice ring around the glass. Heavy roasted malt aromas are mainly centered around chocolate. Lighter ash and vanilla notes as well in the nose. Flavors include semi-sweet chocolate, vanilla, hints of hazelnut, dry burnt grains, blonde roast coffee and brown sugar. More dry than creamy. Fairly low carbonation level. Tasty.

Keg @ Canalhouse, Notts. Pours opaque black with beige head in a badly washed glass. Ferrero Rocher aroma, deliciously subtle chocolate and hazlenuts, roasted malts, rich silky smooth character. Lovely stuff.

Micro train tasting with Colin on the way to Siren. Opaque black - brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Milf fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, no roast or bitterness. Mild dark chocolate. Generic nuts, slightly bitter. Light dry finish. Really not the sweet beer I was expecting, in fact it leaves a mild bitter aftertaste.
