A very nice chocolate porter. Pours a great thick black with a tan head. Smells like hazelnut, with a bit of chocolate and vanilla. Taste starts off with bitter dark chocolate, which is smoothed somewhat in the finish by the hazelnut and vanilla. Had on tap at the Brewery.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Must have missed something with this one. Find one of my least favourite nuances of a beer relates to hazelnut. Just doesn’t work with anything around it, and this one has that flawed quality.
It produces up jet black with little life and a tight, compact, glossy tan head. Aside a lot of roastd hazelnut comes hints of kecap manis, Marmite, Marzipan, scorched praline and nut husks. Obscure, almost artificial, nutty and woody chocolate flavour comes through like cheap cooking chocolate and powdered chocolate alternatives. Buttery, sweet caramel linger after a bitter, chocolate malt finish that is lightly peppery and phenolic. Quite lean to thin in body. Hints at sweet ssoy sauce and Marmite but the hazelnut and fake chocolate notes off-set it. Heavy on the carbonation, so swirly-swirly goes the glass to rid it of that. I don’t understand how this could be enjoyable. More body and alcohol maybe. It is neither refreshing nor one to mull over as it is pretty well one-dimensional. Not bad, just not at all great! Pours a solid black with a tan head and lacing. It has an aroma of chocolate and hazelnut and a flavor that is chocolate and smooth malt with a hazelnut backbone.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma is full of syrupy hazelnut sweet character. Reminds me a lot of Rogue’s. Not much else happening in the aroma, Light toast. I love that hazelnut character, though. Eseentially opaque black body with a medium, strong, tan head present. Good lacing. Starts with a nice sweet, chocolate character, before a little roasty malts comes through in the middle with a good dose of hazelnut. Finishes with some sweetness and a bit of a roastiness with some coffee character later, too. This is velvety smooth. A true dessert/coffee-head beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black with a fading tan head.
Nose shows chocolate and hazelnut, mainly hazelnut. Pretty much ferrero rocher in a glass. Awesome. Some bready malt too.
Flavours include more of the same, but with more of a bitter cocoa note and a fair bit of roasted malt.
Body could be a bit richer/creamier.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared @ ChrisO after GBBF Day 1. Dark brown to black color, small lightly brown head. Aroma is malts, indeed a lot of chocolate, vanilla, lots of hazelnuts as well. Taste malts, chocolate, hazelnuts, lightly vanilla, lightly roasty, a bit sweet initially and slightly chocolate bitter in the finish. A bit thin texture, medium body, medium carbonation. Could use a bit more viscosity. Nice when a beer is actually what the name says it is.

Bottle courtesy of Craig and shared at Cropredy ’Fairports Annual Reunion’ Festival, Cropredy, Oxon, Friday 8th August 2014 Pours dark brown with lashings of hazelnut and chocolate on the nose. These two unsurprisingly also combine in the mouth leading to a smooth, sweet beery nutty chocolate spread type of thing going on, the coffee a bit part player in proceedings. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
