On Tap at the River Room, Whole Foods Boise. Black with just a thin line around the edge of the glass. Lots of tootsie roll and toffee and other burnt chocolate type notes. Chocolate milk and cocoa flavors. A little nutty but in a soft mellowing way. Some bitter twang at the end. Nice

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a finger and half of tan head on a black body.
The aroma has lots of hazelnut and chocolate right up front.
The taste starts with mild chocolate bitterness, then roasted malt sweet and carries through to a tapered sweet ending.
The texture is smooth with low carbonation.
Excellent balance for a decadent beer.

Dark brown pour at the brewery taproom. Slight tan head. Awesome nose on this - hazelnut and chocolate. Sweeter and with a creamier mouthfeel vs. shallow grave. Nutty and chocolate flavors are pronounced. Slightly sweet finish with a hint of bitter coffee.

A very nice chocolate porter. Pours a great thick black with a tan head. Smells like hazelnut, with a bit of chocolate and vanilla. Taste starts off with bitter dark chocolate, which is smoothed somewhat in the finish by the hazelnut and vanilla. Had on tap at the Brewery.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Must have missed something with this one. Find one of my least favourite nuances of a beer relates to hazelnut. Just doesn’t work with anything around it, and this one has that flawed quality.
It produces up jet black with little life and a tight, compact, glossy tan head. Aside a lot of roastd hazelnut comes hints of kecap manis, Marmite, Marzipan, scorched praline and nut husks. Obscure, almost artificial, nutty and woody chocolate flavour comes through like cheap cooking chocolate and powdered chocolate alternatives. Buttery, sweet caramel linger after a bitter, chocolate malt finish that is lightly peppery and phenolic. Quite lean to thin in body. Hints at sweet ssoy sauce and Marmite but the hazelnut and fake chocolate notes off-set it. Heavy on the carbonation, so swirly-swirly goes the glass to rid it of that. I don’t understand how this could be enjoyable. More body and alcohol maybe. It is neither refreshing nor one to mull over as it is pretty well one-dimensional. Not bad, just not at all great! 3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a solid black with a tan head and lacing. It has an aroma of chocolate and hazelnut and a flavor that is chocolate and smooth malt with a hazelnut backbone.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma is full of syrupy hazelnut sweet character. Reminds me a lot of Rogue’s. Not much else happening in the aroma, Light toast. I love that hazelnut character, though. Eseentially opaque black body with a medium, strong, tan head present. Good lacing. Starts with a nice sweet, chocolate character, before a little roasty malts comes through in the middle with a good dose of hazelnut. Finishes with some sweetness and a bit of a roastiness with some coffee character later, too. This is velvety smooth. A true dessert/coffee-head beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black with a fading tan head.
Nose shows chocolate and hazelnut, mainly hazelnut. Pretty much ferrero rocher in a glass. Awesome. Some bready malt too.
Flavours include more of the same, but with more of a bitter cocoa note and a fair bit of roasted malt.
Body could be a bit richer/creamier.
