On tap at the brewery. Dark brown, almost black, with a light tan head that quickly dissipated. Nose of chocolate and hazelnut, very nice! Smooth sweet taste, overall very good.

Pretty solid porter...mahogany bordering ebony with a medium sized cashew foam. Cocoa, caramel, toasted nuts, roasted malt, and a touch of vanilla. Flavorful, particularly given the lower ABV. Heretic has a proven track record and this one works as well. Solid.

Smell is chocolate and nuts, like a candy bar. Tastes like a roasty porter with hints of chocolate and hazelnut in the aftertaste. Medium body, lively carbonation, and mild foam.

Bomber from Berkeley Bowl. Pours out near black. Mocha head which dissipates quickly, nice lacing. Lots of toasted hazelnut in the aroma. Some notes of molasses, chocolate with a slight smoky dryness. The hazelnut was a bit too toasted for my liking.

A fine if not overly complex porter. Sweet. Strong chocolate notes. Undercurrents of hazelnut. Nice.

Keg at Tyler’s Carrboro. Clear dark red, large creamy tan head. Good retention. Aroma of strong hazelnuts, chocolate, roasted malt, mild dark fruit. The taste is Nutella, dark fruits, caramel. Thin bodied, low carbonation.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Thick opaque brown pour that started with a good amount of tan foam. Nice nutty dark roasted malt flavors. Semi-sweet chocolate. Nutella. Hints of black leather and charcoal grill. Silky body. Good stuff.

Bomber from Hayduke that we had via facebook chat. A deep dark brown with a one finger tan head. The aroma is sweetish. Milk chocolate, hazelnut that you would add to your coffee, and coffee. I taste all of the above along with vanilla, fruit, and wood. Lactic. Just a little bitterness late. I like the complexity here. And the smooth rich feel. This one was in my wheelhouse and I liked it.

bubbleflubber (1914) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 27, 2015
On draught, this pours opaque black into the glass with a large choco-tan head that leaves huge soap lacing. The nose is of hazelnuts and chocolates. Lightly roasted grains, a huge wallop of hazelnut and chocolates finish with a hazelnut roasted essence. The mouth isn't overtly sweet, yet full of flavor and silky velvet to the palate. Gorgeous use of the hazelnut in this superb Porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
