Evil Cousin is Heretic’s take on a West coast imperial IPA. This beer is a bold, in-your-face hop monster. It has a light, easy drinking malt character that allows the hops to stand out. The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive. This beer is for those of you who can’t get enough hops. Join us on the dank side.

Bottle shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad. The beer appears transparent and orange colored with 1/4" white head. The aroma offers some pine, citrus, light booze. Healthy malt presence with some pine and citrus notes. Slightly sweet with an aggressive bite in the finish. Medium to light body with heavy bitterness. Overall, this was ok. Nothing to write home about. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-18-2012

Bottle. Pours a deep golden amber with a billowy offwhite head. Falls away to leave a decent amount of lacing all the way down the glass. Aromas of light sweet caramel and resiny grassy piney hops. Not quite as assertive as I imaged but decent all the same. Flavour wise there are plenty of resiny hops. Not overly bitter to be honest. Some malt sweetness. Fullish mouthfeel. Nice easy drinking DIPA

Big bottle from Cousin Matt’s local BevMo. Meant to split it but ran out of Californian drinking days and have somehow ended up polishing it off on a rain-lashed November night at The Penguin. Pours warm, clear orange heaped with a diminishing off-white mousse. Aroma of drawer liners, perfumed neck (sorry, the missus’ perfumed neck), hot tyres, mature Cheddar, Shepherd Neame, liquorice and tinned peaches draped with honey. Pretty cacophonous with good, still-fresh musky hop rising above the peachiness. Slippery and honeyed with enough rasp, hum and bitterness to get away with it; notes of peaches, lemon icing, lavender, honey and lemon throatsweets. Good flowery green burps. Bit medicinal, Shep-like and not entirely to my taste but relieved to find it’s not a complete peach bomb.

22-oz. bomber into a pint glass at my house on Nov. 13, 2012 (purchased at Mission Trails Market for $7.99 on Nov. 13, 2012). Caramel amber with three fingers of thick frothy white head. Decent wet foamy retention on the top and the sides. Smelled a nice dose of citrus hops. Got grapefruit, tangerine, lime, skunky pine and caramel (light). The skunk lingered on. Tasted very hoppy right from the get-go. Got tangerine and grapefruit bitter hops up front with a strong bite of orange peels and alcohol lingering after. I kept waiting for the aftertaste to be good, but it never really came. Definitely missing something. Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively (above average) carbonation. Skunky, bitter finish. Was a bit disappointed overall, especially for the $7.99 price tag. It was missing something, came up just a tad short.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with a large creamy off-white head that dissipates slowly with some lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, caramel. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet and medium bitterness that carries into the far finish. Medium bodied and oily textured in the mouth.

Draft at Creek Monkey. Pours a clear, rich golden color with a finger of white head. Aroma of big, fresh oily and and piney and citrusy hops, sweet malts, wet leaves, and sugar. The flavor had the same big, oily, citrusy, fresh hop character, with sweet malts, grapefruit peel, soap, and pine resin. Medium-bodied, with a sticky mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lingers on the palate. Nice DIPA.

Citrusy, resiny hop aroma with light grassiness, biscuity malt with some caramel. Gold, off white head. Flavor of biscuity malt, resiny hops with some grassiness again, but pleasant. Nice lingering bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great use of hops...and they add them by the ton. While the aroma is amazing, the lightness of the beer is a bit off for a DIPA. The ABV is completely unnoticeable - to the point that there should be more. The hop flavor doesn’t just stand infront of the malt flavor, it fully eclipses it. I would have preferred there to be a bit more malt in there...not to mute the hops, but to give it more of a appearance, palate, and abv backbone. A great NorCal hop bomb.

Tap at the Cask, Pimlico - 19/10/12. Lightly hazed amber with a big white head - good lacing ensues. Big pine nose backed up by sweet malt, some nuttiness, pumpkin and spice. Pine forward flavour, very bitter grapefruit, a little wood and other citrus tones. Fuller end of medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Drinkable DIPA but certainly no ’wow’ factor to this one!
