Evil Cousin is Heretic’s take on a West coast imperial IPA. This beer is a bold, in-your-face hop monster. It has a light, easy drinking malt character that allows the hops to stand out. The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive. This beer is for those of you who can’t get enough hops. Join us on the dank side.

Bottle. Sensoric. Golden. little hazy with medium, semi-densed, white, head. Good lacing and poor head retention. Nice medium hoppy tropical fruits aroma, piney, resinous and citrus, unfortunately some oxidized hops (bottled 03.02.2015 r.). Taste is medium bitter with nice semi-swett aftertaste. Medium body, average carbonation.

Slightly hazy orange with golden hueas and a small white head. Aroma is piney, resinous hopiness. Flavor is sharp piney hops with hust enough malt to back up, with a bitter grapefruit/ pineapple aftertaste. Medium palate, a bit too boozy.

Bottle from Brewfest. Bright copper with lasting head and lace. Resiny piney aroma with some toffee and booze. Toasted malts with some peachy fruit and extremely assertive resiny piney lingering bitterness. Medium full body thick. Very good. I think VT-style DIPA has superceded West Coast style. Nevertheless, this is a bold and tasty beer.

Bottled dated 05/11/2015. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Light stringy lacing remained around the glass in a slightly messy sort of way. The smell had a bitter citrus rind weaving in between sweet pine and leading into a full bittersweet feel in and around my nose. The taste was fully bittersweet grabbing my taste buds for the full effect of the punch of bitterness in the taste. There’s a light bitter to semi-sweet citrus aftertaste. The finish was quick and left a light dryness. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable feel about it. Carbonation maintains a good level for a DIPA allowing the bitterness to give the appropriate pleasing kick for DIPA fans. Overall, I really liked this one. Its everything a DIPA should be as it always keeps its bittersweetness all the way through the beer. Definitely again.

Big yellow, with an inch of super-stable white head. Aroma is sweet, slightly toasty malt, with some red grapefruit, and a whiff of pineapple. Taste is dry-ish, with a resinous bitterness, and a biscuity malt character. $5/22oz

8%ABV. Imperial IPA. This tapped out a bright and lightly cloudy yellow gold, about 6ºSRM with a thin head of compact creamy beige foam. The nose was a sub-tropical bouquet with Orchids, Hibiscus and Lilies. There was a very pleasantly spicy hit of Thai basil and spearmint. It clung to my palate with a moderately alcoholic soapy mouthfeel. The flavor was just malty malty malty and sweet and clinging and sticky and taffy and all the adjectives worthy of a good quality malt. For me, there was just barely enough hops to balance the palate to keep it pleasant.

Hazy yellow-orange color with small head. Aroma is very tropical, intense thick hop juice. Taste is juicy hoppy, more tropical fruits and pines, with a rather weak malt body. Feels light, the body is thin, but the bitterness is really strong and tells that this one is a very Imperial IPA. Carbonation is low but present. A very unusual and interesting Double IPA.
