COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Evil Cousin is Heretic’s take on a West coast imperial IPA. This beer is a bold, in-your-face hop monster. It has a light, easy drinking malt character that allows the hops to stand out. The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive. This beer is for those of you who can’t get enough hops. Join us on the dank side.

It is a solid 2x IPA in the vain of Firestone Double Jack (I like the Double Jack a bit more). You can definitely taste the malt, flattening the bitter, but not too much. It does not have any citrus flavor that I can discern - I have to admit that I’m on a citrus kick right now (Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA and Sculpin Grapefruit IPA) but this is a good beer.

Ugh, the many degrees of my dislike of Pale Ale’s. At least Imperial ones have a lot of alcohol. That helps.

Tap at Sprenger’s tap room, Santa Rosa. Pours light yellow, big frothy head. Aroma is pineapple, pine, resin, orange, lemon. Flavor is pine, malt sweetness, citrus. Bitter hop finish. Solid. But nothing exceptional.

Poured from the 12oz can into a snifter. Golden color with a cream colored head. Aroma is bready malt, earthy and resinous hops, and some alcohol. Flavor is similar, bready malt up front with a big dose of hops, dank, earthy, and resinous notes. Medium bodied and not very dry for the ABV. Surprisingly easy to drink and great hop flavors.

Tap at pour house, paso robles. Deep goldeb color, white head. Sweet caramel nose with fruity hops. Sweet malty body, big dry hops, fruity, mango.

Pours hazy amber with frothy off-white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, light resinous. Taste is malty, a bit sweet, bitter hops, oranges. Soft carbonation, medium body. This wasn’t a fresh bottle, but still a nice imperial ipa.

Bottled. 20cl sample. The aroma has citric and piney hops, light biscuity malt tones. Clear, golden coloured beer with a medium, white head. The taste is moderate bitter, fairly dry, citric, piney. Okay,

(Heretic Evil Cousin) Bottle 650 ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 8% Pale orange colour on the body, clear, with a small but thick snow-white head on top, with average retention. Aroma has grass, hops, lemon flowers, orange zest. Taste follows, nicely hopped, with lemon flowers and leaves, light tangerine and orange zest, grass, well hidden alcohol. Medium thin body, good amount of carbonation, mildly dry on the palate. Nice.

Poured into a tall shaker showing cloudy yellow and a finger of white clean foam. The nose shows a lot of round, ripe and forward tropical fruit - mango, passion fruit, guava. The palate is moderately carbonated and medium bodied. Flavors of moderately intense tropical fruit throughout with a flat and robust IIPA bitterness at the finish.

Smells like of citrus fruit pine resin. Colors a light yellow and to slight orange color. Taste is citrus fruit followed up by a nice strong pine resin flavor with a nice smooth sweet malt backbone. Taste lingers on your tongue just strong enough to enjoy it. Nice rounded double IPA from heretic.
