Evil Cousin is Hereticís take on a West coast imperial IPA. This beer is a bold, in-your-face hop monster. It has a light, easy drinking malt character that allows the hops to stand out. The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive. This beer is for those of you who canít get enough hops. Join us on the dank side.

Bit worried about the bottling date but here goes!
Into a chalice at just on cool. Looks divine; a plume of white lifts atop a pastel, misty orange body. Fine, well conditioned carbonation fuels it and the lace it leaves behind is the work of artisans. The nose has all the olfactory tingling inklings of a heavily spiced, heavily boozy beer but a massive hop presence underlies it giving it a raw forest floor, pine needle, camphorous edge. A few more whiffs reveals plump, pale stonefruits, guava, orange, lemon balm and honey - very nice. Portrays a whole depth of fresh hops (considering my bottle is 8 months old and travelled half the planet!). The fruit of the nose here, tangy, ripe and supple with a malt matched sweetness. Whilst the alcohol is soft there is a slight hop burn to the back-end where it dries out before a lengthy fruit and malt finish. Camphor, eucalypt, grass, pine needles and nettles grip the mid-palate and dwell there long between sips. Body holds at medium-light, even as it warms, and the carbonation retains a liveliness that sees the beer race across the tongue. Bitter orange peel matches notes of honey and pear drop candy. This is a stiffly balanced beast. Wonderfully refreshing for an eight percentíer. Nice complexity to the nose matched by a wonderfully aromatic finish and tasty, contemplative palate. Loved it. Great stuff!! (65cL, Bottled 24/03/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

On tap at Junkyard, Nottingham on 8 October 2014. Golden amber colour. Solid firm hop character. Quite grassy & herbal hops. Fairly bitter. Firm and nicely drinkable for a double IPA - no sticky malts. Rather prickly mouthfeel for my taste though. Overall good stuff.

Bottle. Moderate bread and grain for the malt, heavy grapefruit for the hops, slight cheese for the yeast, with a hint of honey. Head is average size, frothy, slightly off-white with good yet thin lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is mostly clear medium amber. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a lively carbonation. Smells super hoppy, but this DIPAís flavor has a lot of sweetness leaving it a bit out of balance for the style.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a 1.5 finger head which drops down to a nice foamy sheet. Aroma is a punch in the face of orange, lemon and sweet floral. Notes of sour candy and slight resin linger as well. Taste is a nice refreshing citrus and slight sweet on the front with a delicious hoppy light bitterness on the back with a light body and lively carbonation that isnít too dry. Overall this is a delicious and wonderful Imperial IPA and i would drink this on a hot day anytime.

Pours a clear, light, golden amber with an off-white head. The aroma is mild, apricots and resin. The taste is hops but a nice balance hiding the alcohol, an average body, sticky, grassy, and pine. Definitely a keeper.

Bottle from GBBF 2014 and drunk at home. Clear gold lasting white head. Well then. Itís a big double ipa from the States, yes. Resiny hop, check. Not quite as fresh as it could be or is that the crystal malt talking? Itís got sticky resiny hops. Itís got decent bitterness. Hop finish is pleasant. Yes an extreme beer but nothing to make it stand out from the other extreme dipas. Hides alcohol quite well but there is some heat on the finish. Decent. But against the style? It is what it is.

Aroma: Resinous, onion/garlic, damp grass hop aroma mixing with some alcohol and a bit of caramel. Appearance: Light copper and hazy. Minimal head. Taste: Well-balanced is the first thing that comes to mind. Itís a big double IPA, but the hops are reigned in by a solid malt presence and sweetness. Hop notes are resinous, grassy, dank, a bit of onion/garlic. Itís followed up by a light malt sweetness and surprisingly doesnít have a lingering bitterness. Its easy to go back for more on this one. Palate: Full bodied without a lot of lingering bitterness. Finishes a lot lighter than youíd expect for its body. Overall: A nice double IPA, but more restrained than a lot of west coast IPAs you find. Easy drinking and balanced for the style.
