Evil Cousin is Hereticís take on a West coast imperial IPA. This beer is a bold, in-your-face hop monster. It has a light, easy drinking malt character that allows the hops to stand out. The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive. This beer is for those of you who canít get enough hops. Join us on the dank side.

Poured from bomber, picked up at the brewery yesterday. Somewhat clear golden with a medium white head. Nose is mostly citrus, not too strong, with a bit of caramel. Smooth well balanced taste, not as strong as some of my favorite doubles, but rather good. Medium bodied with a nice bitter finish.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, lemon), with notes of celery, shallot. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Mostly citrus hops but itís fairly vegetal too. A bit more like a regular IPA in the mouth, not particularly big or rich. Meh.

It is a solid 2x IPA in the vain of Firestone Double Jack (I like the Double Jack a bit more). You can definitely taste the malt, flattening the bitter, but not too much. It does not have any citrus flavor that I can discern - I have to admit that Iím on a citrus kick right now (Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA and Sculpin Grapefruit IPA) but this is a good beer.

Ugh, the many degrees of my dislike of Pale Aleís. At least Imperial ones have a lot of alcohol. That helps.

Tap at Sprengerís tap room, Santa Rosa. Pours light yellow, big frothy head. Aroma is pineapple, pine, resin, orange, lemon. Flavor is pine, malt sweetness, citrus. Bitter hop finish. Solid. But nothing exceptional.

Poured from the 12oz can into a snifter. Golden color with a cream colored head. Aroma is bready malt, earthy and resinous hops, and some alcohol. Flavor is similar, bready malt up front with a big dose of hops, dank, earthy, and resinous notes. Medium bodied and not very dry for the ABV. Surprisingly easy to drink and great hop flavors.
