This blood-red ale may not be what you might expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

Even toned dark amber with a dense, off white head. Aron is standard RIPA, but with a nutty chocolate note. Taste is the same, with a fresh hop character, and a prickliness on the palate. My first Jamil beer ever. $6/22oz ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark mahogany, ruby red hue. Big grapefruit nose, hint of special roast, lower lovibond caramel with low levels of burnt ness, candy flavor strawberry fruit roll-up. Lighter body for all that's going on. Very well balanced, clean, high drink ability. Very impressed, first Heretic.

Bottle from Joes and, surprisingly, with a recent bottle date. Dark reddish brown with lasting head and lace. Spicy hop aroma with dark bread and hints of citrus. Mildly roasted sweet and very roasted nutty with herbal bitter finish. Very dry. Medium body and fine carbo. Very good.

BOD 11/21/14. Pours a clear deep dark ruby. World class head volume, lacing and retention. A truly beautiful beer. Rich complex nose of malt and hops. A somewhat dank, but also light citrus, hop aroma over a rich malt base of biscuit and caramel. Hints of pine and chocolate are also present. Medium body with a very smooth texture that has creamy aspects. Slightly above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a reasonably strong finish. The outstanding flavor profile is intense, complex and very well balanced. It begins with a complex mix of flavors. Grainy biscuit and caramel lead, but with a laid back light sweetness. Citric, pine and grapefruit rind hop flavor follows. A mild bitterness arrives in the middle which is a complex of dank, pine and rind with a citric note. As the finish approaches, bitter dark chocolate notes are present. The finish is slightly dry with a lingering dank bitterness.

Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver
Dark color, red mahogany, with mediium sized beige head. Nice aroma, there is some caramel, light hop resins and light red grapes. The body is lean but not weak, fairly dry; it has the expected dark caramel flavor, not oppressive as in other Red Ales though, with a pinch of nuttiness, and immediately overwhelmed by a pretty powerful bitterness, a good amount of hop resins, not much hop fruitiness besides some bitter oranges.
Red IPA is not the best style around, but this one is above the average.
