August 6th, 2012 - If you’re looking for brave new adventures with an Indian Jones-esque blend of adventure and daring-do, sample the Heretic Evil Twin Red Ale. If you’re looking for impeccably balanced and crafted flavors, you might want to pass. It’s a pretty beer to be sure, with a mysterious murkiness the color of a rusty brown puddle, but the nose is vitiated by a dirty, clumsy spicy scent that is overrun by the a chemical level whiff of alcohol. Clove and cinnamon are present, but they too smell more like industrial output at a large bakery than a freshly opened jar of fresh pastry ingredients. The flavor works on different dimensions entirely - smokey with an acidic coffee bitterness, and a weird low-grade bergamot tea off flavor that edges this glass closer to being a drain pour. As I mentioned earlier, that tea and citrus touch might be worth tasting just to put it into your mental scrapbook, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back for seconds.

Justin on the Sunday Session always raves about this. I?ve had lots of Heretic before but this is my first Evil Twin. It is hoppy for a red ale, but is VERY well balanced. I see myself seeking this out in the future.

This beer has an amazing deep red beer. It has the aroma and flavor of blood orange. The hop flavors are balanced by a malty complexity.

Pretty tasty. A bit too fizzy maybe, and the thin head disappears quite quickly. Darker than I expected.
