This blood-red ale may not be what you might expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

Bottle shared at RBAG Summer Session 2012. Pours a reddish-brown color with a medium khaki head that has fair retention. The aroma is pungent with dank C-hops, I get lots of grapefruit, limes, light pine and some oranges. The flavor, like the aroma, is a big blast of hops with abundant grapefruit and set in a hazelnut malt base. The palate is full and smooth with lively carbonation. Finishes long and dry. Overall: I am impressed.

Bottle, 22oz. A more or less clear one, copper-colored and topped by a dense, off-white head of moderate size. Quite hoppy nose, some fruity sourness blending in, and a faint touch of sweetish malts. Pine cones too. Rather bitter on the palate, full-bodied and with a pleasant carbonation. Lemon peel, pine cones and a malty sweetness in the flavor, as well as some fruity sourness. Lasting finish with lots of bitterness, a good dash of fruityness, some peaches, and sweetness. A quite pleasant one, although a bit over the top. 120817

Bottle - Sweet molasses from the malts with some flowery hops in the background. Small head and cloudy brown hue. Citrus hops throughout with a bitterness to match. Some malt notes lurking in the back, but not too pronounced. Will definitely try again.

Bottle, shared at RBAG Summer Session 2012. Murky brown with golden highlights, crowned by an average off-white head the leaves minimal lacing. Very hop-forward aroma, perfumey citrus with that signature hard-to-pin-down fruit quality I often find in Centennial hops (berries?... not exactly, melon?...closer maybe). Nice hoppy palate too, medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel, but marred slightly by a minerally/dusty quality that I’ve found in a few Mikkeller brews (I think its a yeast thing). Quite nice though.

Rbag summer. Hazy red brown pour with thin whitish head. Caramel and toffee nose with citrus and some floral notes behind. Taste has big toffee and caramel, citrus, pineapple fruitiness. Medium bitter finish, lingering candied citrus.
