This blood-red ale may not be what you might expect from a malty and hoppy craft beer. Evil Twin has a rich malt character, without being overly sweet. It has a huge hop character, without being overly bitter. It is a great example of a bold, rich, balanced craft beer, without being heavy and hard to drink in quantity. Our Evil Twin is only bad because it is too good to resist.

Sampled in a bomber. A really smooth and flavorful red ale. Well made and crisp to the mouth. Quality.

Cask at the Sir John Gervase Warren. Pours ruby chestnut brown with lace top. Aroma of dark fruits and citrus back notes. Taste of spicy malts and rich fruits. Reminds me of barley wines of bygone days. It took awhile to track this down given Evil Twins NY provenance and Heretic’s Californian one. But it sums up the American dilemma (great taste but too much abv). I guess I could come in and have one of these and then go home. But life is more than that.

Can@Simon The Tanner, London - dark dark reddish brown with off white head. Dark hoppy and fruity aroma and taste, some caramel, fudge, dank dark piney hopey action, some nice herbal piney spicy hop bite into the finish. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650ml bottle@Stadin panimobaari. Pours mahogany color with a thick white head. Hoppy, caramelly, mild spicy aroma. Malty. Flavor has sweetness, hops, dark fruits, caramel malt. Balanced, just enough sweetness. Solid red ale.

Draft at Eulogy. Very dark ruby black with lasting soapy tan foam. Fuller and juicier than expected. Dark red stone fruit and burnt malt and hops. Black currant, black cherry and blackberry. Chocolate liquorice. Carbob. Molasses. Charred blood oranges. Burnt toast. Easy drinking. Unusual mix of styles.

Nicely done. Deep dark red color. Heavy hops up front and thick aroma of cotton seed and hops. An interesting red delicious apple peel taste at the finish. Bottle.

nice sandy head... good retention and lacing... the brew is polished deep amber. Nose shows plenty of big pine hops and some grapefruit zest... good balanced malt profile leaning toward caramel but still seems nicely dry. Decent bitterness up front that quickly moves into the toasty/caramel malts... hops are again more piney than anything else... but some definite citrus zest raises its head... Body and carbonation are about perfect for the style... This is very very well done... probably the best Amber that I’ve had in a LONG time. Kudos.

Can from Bottlecraft, Hanley. Pours dark ruby with a light tan head. In your face hop aroma, sweet syrup, overly hopped, alcohol warmth. Could be much better, no balance. They’ve gone overboard on this. Shame.

Backlog rating. Keg at Two Bit in BD Shoreditch, London. It pours a rich dark copper color with small tan head. Aroma is sweet and lightly boozy, with molasses, caramelized figs, orange marmalade and chocolate sponge. Taste has more malty sweetness, fruit notes, caramel, light booze. Medium to full bodied with soft to good carbonation. Overall, quite bold and sweet
